rhinoms Superleague XIX Previews - Round 9
Posted by southstander on April 16 2014 - 07:03:35

by rhinoms

It's derby day all round as Superleague XIX hits the 1/3 of the season mark.

With the probably exception of the Broncos against the Dragons, the most contrived derby in world sport, you'd probably like to watch all of the Thursday/Friday matches as they all promise competitive games with the potential for unexpected results.

The Rhinos trip to Odsal is likely to be the most one-sided game of the round but the Bulls have sprung surprises and upset the form book on many occasions in the past against the Blue & Amber neighbours.

We preview the action here.....

This week it’s Round Nine and the first part of the Easter double header and the Saints are on the march as they look to maintain their 100% winning record when they face fierce rivals the Pie Eaters.

Here are this week’s previews.

BULLS v. RHINOS

The Blue ‘n’ Amber visit Odslum sitting second on the League Ladder whereas the hosts remain rooted to the bottom.

The home side have only won twice but still remain on minus two points due to the farcical board-room actions which saw them enter administration again.

It may prove to be tougher than many expect but the home side lack serious quality so the Rhinos should win with plenty to spare.

KR v. FC

It’s the first instalment of Cod Wars as the Robins welcome their neighbours.

Both teams will be confident after recording comprehensive wins against Wire & the Giants respectively.

Although both teams have scored some very good try’s showing pace and skill they also have defensive weakness.

It should be fierce uncompromising and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a feast of points but I just think the visitors have a slight edge.

BRONCOS v. DRAGONS

The winless hosts will be hoping to build on a respectable performance last week at the pie dome whereas the visitors are finally finding their mojo.

Another decent effort by the Nags but still no cigar as their lack of depth and quality will once again be exposed by superior opponents.

SAINTS v. WARRIORS

The game of the round takes place at Langtree park as these two old enemies do battle.

The visitors are still off the pace of the front runners but remain a threat whereas the Red V is leading the way still unbeaten and with a three point lead at the top.

As always it will be fierce and played at break neck speed but I do think the hosts hold the edge this year whereas the visitors are still adjusting to new arrivals and new juniors stepping up.

DEVILS v. GIANTS

The big spenders face the forlorn Giants as Coach Harris takes charge of his first home game.

Paul “George Dawes” Anderson has to find a plan B as last years LL’s got a pasting last week and MOS Brough throwing out his rattle and Dummy didn’t help either.

Whilst the Dr’s mercenaries look to keep improving and gel more the visitors are arguing amongst themselves and failing to live up to expectations.

Whatever the demands of the eccentric Devils owner I think the visitors will have enough to dish out a back lash of sorts but their problems will still remain unsolved.

WILDCATS v. TIGERS

Another neighbourly battle takes place as the Puddy Cats welcome the Tiggers.

The high flying visitors were so close to beating the 100%’s Saints but imploded so I expect the hosts to feel the brunt of their frustration.

The hosts just lack structure ,quality and more importantly a settled 13 which will prove no match for Powells rampaging Tigers.

Another painful defeat for the hosts but the locals will hope they can show some fight and positives to build on.

WOLVES v. VIKINGS

It’s just not happening for the Hosts thus far as they still look disjointed and unable to adapt to the loss of Hodgson ,Briers and Morley whilst the injuries also take their toll.

The visitors came crashing down to earth after an 11 try pasting away in Perpignan but they still have plenty of threats and will be determined to bounce back.

It should be a good entertaining clash with both teams capable of scoring points but I think home advantage should be enough for Smiths mob to bounce back.
