rhinoms Superleague XVIII Previews - Round 27
Posted by southstander on September 04 2013 - 16:27:28

by rhinoms

The final round of Superleague and with the minor premiership neatly wrapped up by the HUddersfield Giants last weekend you would think that there was nothing left to play for.

But you'd be wrong as the Wigan youngsters surprise one-point loss to Hull FC last weekend set up a third-place eliminator between the Cherry & Whites and the defending Champions.

SKY had already shown some preminition and moved the game to Thursday for television, it should be a belter.

We finally hit Round twenty-seven of the regular Superleague season this is the last chance for the top eight Clubs to gain some momentum, form and confidence before the Play offs start and for the also rans its a chance to sign off from their respective seasons with a win and moral boosting effort.

Here are this weeks previews.

WARRIORS v. RHINOS

Who would of thought just a couple of rounds ago this would be a straight shoot out for third spot?

After the much changed Pies lost to the Cod-eads and the Champs managed to grind out a win against a dogged Dragons outfit its come down to the last 80 minutes to decide 3rd and 4th.

The Champs travel West boosted by the return of messrs Delaney and JJB whereas the host welcome back a host of first choice stars after their week off.

Both teams will be rusty for various reasons but it still should be a good old fashioned no holds barred game of RL.

I think the Rhinos have to step up this week after a couple of below par efforts whereas the hosts will be confident they have more than enough to get the win.

An entertaining and brutal match expected but I think the Blue 'n' Amber will want to lay a marker down before the serious stuff starts next week.

FC v. SAINTS

Although they will be boosted by their away win at the pie-dome last week the reality is they beat a reserve side by one point.

The visitors are finally starting to resemble a decent RL team again although last weeks loss to Wire will hurt they showed good spirit to mount a comeback of sorts and make a game of it.

No matter how much gobbing off their owner or fans do I'm still not convinced they are contenders and think the visitors will be too strong.

REDS v. VIKINGS

The last game for the Dross that is the Salford team 2013 before the new era of Kokrash's revolution.

The Vikings have improved this year and will want to end on a winning note before they call time on their season and I expect an away win.

DRAGONS v. WOLVES

Whilst both teams will want to win and show some form neither can finish any higher so there may be some squad changes.

The Dragons just haven't fired this year they failed to handle their injuries and have missed that creative spark more often than not.

I think the packs will make it a battle but the visitors class should prevail.

BULLS v. GIANTS

The Hub cap winners will want to continue their momentum whilst the home side have already written off this year under another cloud of issues.

The host just don't have the quality to compete which was highlighted last week when losing to the pub team from down south.

KR v. BRONCOS

Both teams had surprise results last time out the visitors grabbing a rare away win whilst the hosts mis-fired and showed their all too familiar inconsistency.

The hosts have lost their six for the season which is another blow and should make their play off impact minimal but they should have too much for visitors.

WILDCATS v. TIGERS

Despite the local rivalry all that's at stake is pride the visitors arrive knowing their squad is as good as dismantled for next year whereas the hosts have had their regular deja vu of issues so who knows who will line for them.

As daft as it may sound I still think it will be a battle these two really dislike each other and will be wanting to end their years with a positive win against their bitter rivals.

Wakey look shot whereas the Tiggers have that carnival approach with an open pressure free style of RL so I expect an away win.
