rhinoms Superleague XVIII Previews - Round 23
Posted by southstander on August 01 2013 - 07:58:00

by rhinoms

With five games left, only Hudersfield, Wigan and Warrington are mathematically certain of a top eight finish. A win for the Rhinos tonight at the Stoop will guarantee them a top eight finish.

The Wildcats, Bulls and Vikings are all holding on to the hopes of finishing in a play-off spot with the Challenge Cup finalists Hull FC being the most realistic target.

Peter Gentles side will need to keep their minds on the league and forget about their impending Wembley trip.

It's back to the weekly grind of SuperLeague this week after eight teams had the Weekend off for the Challenge Cup semi finals.

Here are this weeks previews.

BRONCOS v. RHINOS

After back to back games v wakey the Champs have to travel down the M1 to the pub team of SL and face a side in serious decline and even less confidence after their 70-0 mauling in the Cup.

The Champs are starting to get their injured players back and go into this one on the back of doing the double in 2 tough encounters v the Puddy cats. The switch to thursday will surely reduce an already fairly low crowd even further but after the sad news this week that Rhinos Legend and firm favourite Graham Murray has passed away I expect the Champs to up the gears and show no mercy for the woeful Nags.

It's going to be a long night for the hosts.

FC v. VIKINGS

After coming through their tough CC semi after virtually getting written off by anyone and everyone the Cods welcome one of the worse defences in SL.

The visitors should be fresh after a week off but I doubt that was enough to shore up a poor defence.

The Hosts will be more buoyant than ever but if they take it easy the visitors are capable of scoring points.

Although the visitors may threaten and score points they don't have the defence to take the spoils in this one and I'm sure the trawler mob will have revenge in mind also.

WARRIORS v. KR

After the ease of last weeks cup win the Crusty hosts face a tougher opponent this week when the red half of the reef sail into the Pie Dome.

The Robins have had some great wins this year and they are growing confidence whilst showing some steel and skill.

However the Pies at home are as hard as it gets and with their eyes firmly on regaining top spot i doubt the visitors can challenge for the win.

It will be tough but the visitors lack quality to get the spoils here.

DRAGONS v. SAINTS

After winning the derby and the Dragons indifferent home form the plastic scousers can go into this one brimming with confidence.

They Saints will be extremely confident of building a winning run here as other teams have shown the hosts are much more easily rattled at home this season.

The game will be close and the hosts pack are sure to make it brutal but they are lacking the winning mentality this year and I think an away win is on the cards.

TIGERS v. WOLVES

The new Coach has certainly improved the hosts but not enough to win this week.

Wire travel to rock ridge on the back of a poor performance in their CC defeat and will be fired up for a backlash.

The Tiggers can be hard to beat at home if they start well and gain momentum but i doubt they have enough over the full 80 to get the win.

GIANTS v. REDS

Despite a morale boosting win against the Dragons the visitors don't have enough quality to challenge in this one.

The hosts are top of the SL on merit and with the Pies and Wire still breathing down their necks i can't see them slipping up here.

Expect a comfortable win for the home team and more points in their + column.

WILDCATS v. BULLS

After two close defeats to the Champs the hosts desperately need to win this to keep their top 8 hopes alive. the visitors just cant win games and after this weeks revelations of more money woes when their squad were not paid i doubt they have the resolve to match last years steel and determination. It will be a tough encounter because both teams are desperate but i expect the home side to kick on and get back to winning ways. Wakey by 14.
