rhinoms Superleague XVIII Previews - Round 18

Will the Rhinos end their losing streak? Will the Vikings avoid conceeding sixty? Is this the week that the Reds pick up another two points?

We hurtle into Round eighteen and the start of the countdown to the end of the season and the jostling for poisition heats up for all the competitions teams.

Read more here....

This week we into Round 18 of the SL season and the race for the top eight is speeding up but as injuries bite and form is lost/starting to build the teams within the top 8 are looking for more consistency and a winning habit.

Here are this weeks previews.

Another defeat last week saw the Champs losing streak stretch to 4 but more importantly 2 more of the 1st choice 17 were lost to serious leg injuries.

Losing Mcguire and Watkins will add to the pressure of having to dig in and scrape wins anyway they can for the Blue 'n' Amber and the loss of form of some well known quality players within the team hasn't helped either.

This week it's our 6 fingered neighbours who visit HQ and although they were lucky to draw against the wooden spoon favourites the Broncos their efforts under Powell have improved somewhat.

The hosts will be looking to cut out the cheap penalties and gift wrapped tries they've conceded in this losing run and return to the solid hard working defence we've seen at times this year whilst improving their misfiring attack.

The visitors will fancy their chances as the Champs are down on players and down on confidence but the hungry youngsters and some soul searching should get them back on track this week.

The hosts will have to be at their absolute best to get anything this week despite a hard fought win last week as the in form Giants arrive relatively injury free and firing on all cylinders.

The Robins are capable and can be tough to beat on their day but they lack consistency and in this case enough quality to match the visitors.

Whilst Mcbrough and co are in this form I can't see a positive result for the hosts so the best they can hope for is for the visitors No.6 to fall over his dummy and lose the plot.

The table toppers will still remember last year when they disrespected the hosts and got their Pies burnt so even though there are some young players in the squad they'll approach this game with a better attitude.

The Vikings did well to comeback and get a draw against the Dragons last week and as we know they have plenty of spirit at home but against the top team in the comp I doubt they'll have enough.

The hosts will have a dig but again their lack of depth and quality will be exposed.

The Dragons will be hacked off at the way they blew a decent lead to end up drawing last week and they welcome a confident FC team who look in decent form. The hosts have lost games at home they'll feel they should have won not least 2 games when facing 12 men so I expect them to be fired up.

The visitors trawl into town after a deserved win against the Champs last week and they'll see this as a chance to show some consistency and indicate they are challengers this year.

I think the 2nd half last week showed that the visitors still lack a killer instinct and I think that will cost them in this one.

A chance for the Wire to rotate and rack up their points difference.

For the Nags Gower has gone home they have a few injuries and what's left may have a dig for a half but they will get a hiding in this one.

Both teams are consistently losing games and the hosts will be hoping that Roby will be sharper and their defence is much better than last week.

The visitors are missing a couple of players but are showing what most knew already they are a pretty average team lacking quality and depth but will give it ago.

Both sides have promising youngsters but the ST's have more quality even with a decimated squad.

After a valiant effort against the table toppers last week the visitors will have renewed confidence when they visit Nobbys pub team.

The hosts got a good old fashioned pasting last week after showing some decent RL previously against the Vikings which will have shaken their confidence.

This is the perfect fixture for the Puddy cats to get back to winning ways and I think they'll do it.
