rhinoms Superleague XVIII Previews - Round 17
Posted by southstander on May 30 2013 - 14:12:49

Now that the dust has settled on a great Manchester Magic....or has's time for Superleague Round 17.

This week sees the Rhinos looking to end a three game losing streak at Hull FC, the Giants travelling to Saints, and the league leaders visiting Wakefield Wildcats.

Will it be 'busines as usual'? Read more here....

After the RL Bonanza at the Magic Weekend (which proved to be eventful) it's back to the weekly home and away grind of SuperLeague.

Here are this weeks previews.

After new Black & White hero "Cyclops Ganson" gave them the victory in the Derby which kept their decent run of form going the Hosts welcome the Champs who themselves have hit a blip.

The Champs although unlucky last week will be determined to get back to winning ways despite 1 or 2 injuries whereas the hosts will be desperate to avenge that opening day beating.

This could get tasty and the home shoal are Buoyed by the return of Ellis and Holdsworth their big signings fro the visitors young guns Singleton and Sutcliffe will hope to go one game further towards sealing their own first 17 spot.

It promises to be a belter but I think the Champs will want it more and leave the trawler buoys with empty nets.

The resurgent Tiggers take the wagon train darn sarf this week where the cellar dwellers await them.

For the Broncos their season just hasn't got going and despite a couple of good results the call by their owner to spend the full cap has backfired with a severe lack of quality amongst the home squad.

Darryl Powell has got his team on the right track and they now look like they could threaten the top 8 spots although they still lack some quality themselves.

The new found confidence and the flow of moonshine has brought back the feel good factor to the tiggers and I expect them to continue that here.

After the Farcical events of last week when Dick Turpin made a come back and robbed the Robins of a derby victory the Red Mullets will look to go up a gear and take it to on the visitors.

Once again the Odslum lodgers were found out when they faced a rampant Giants team and it highlighted that the fact that the visitors just can't compete with the top five.

With news that Whinercock has won the sympathy vote of the offer of a contract renewal that should settle the uncertainty around the plaice and see his side net the win.

Whatever the Coach trys it just isn't working for the Puddy Cats they go from defeat to defeat and look pretty weak during it as well.

The Pies used one of their get out of jail cards last time when they just scraped home v the Champs last week.

Saying that they have far too much quality and firepower for the hosts and this could get messy for the hosts so they'll need a huge effort which they've shown in past seasons and hope they get the 50/50 calls as well.

I just can't see a Wakey win but their attitude and efforts will determine how bad the loss will be.

After beating Saints the hosts will be confident of beating the newly confident Reds.

The visitors did ok last week when they won an end to end game v the Vikings thanks in part to some "Alibert special calls".

Nobby will have his Reds fired up to mix it with the big boys and they may compete for an hour but the hosts again have too much quality and pace across the park.

This should be a routine win for the Wire and for the visitors back to the drawing board.

Despite a much improved season thus far the Vikings still lack quality and consistency.

The Frenchmen arrive confident after a good win but more importantly the emotional return of their talisman Dereau.

Again just like the Reds i expect the Vikings to put up a good effort an hour but to fade when the visitors go through the gears.

I don't think the hosts have enough to trouble the visitors in terms of winning but how the dig in will dictate the by how many the visitors win.

The second monday SL game is between two teams with different motives for wanting the win.

the visitors are desperate to get their stars back and more importantly get back to winning games week after week they showed good spirit when they came back a fortnight ago after the Rhinos imploded when 16-0 up.

However their loss v Wire highlighted again they seriously lack quality and confidence.

The hosts will see this as another game to show they are the real deal and as the games run out it's looking more likely that a number of injuries aside they will have a real say this year and i think this is a bad time to face them.

Another spirited effort from ST's but the hosts are too good at the moment.
