rhinoms Superleague XVIII Previews - Round 13
Posted by southstander on April 24 2013 - 19:04:47

by rhinoms

Looking through this weekends fixtures you would expect nailed on wins for Wigan, Warrington, Wolves and the Rhinos while the other fixtures are far more difficult to call.

With the Saints carrying injuries and suspensions they will be scared of a slip-up in the capital. The Reds could take the spoils in a close fought game against the Tigers, and the Wildcats will be fancying their chances of upsetting the Vikings good home form.

It all meakes for an interesting weekend.

After a week off for the Challenge Cup to get underway for 2013 we now return to the 'bread and butter' regular Superleague rounds.

Here are this weeks previews.

FC v. WARRIORS

The big spending hosts are finally stringing wins together and gaining in confidence that comes with them.

This could prove to be a really good tough match up IF both sides bring their A game and the hosts will need to because the in form Pies are looking stronger every week and deservedly top the table.

However i doubt the home side have the quality to match their confidence this week and whilst they'll no doubt compete the visitors have too much across the park to lose this one.

A reasonable effort from the Shoal but the Pies have too much gravy. Pies by 14.

VIKINGS v. WILDCATS

A big game for both sides the hosts will be looking to show their loss at Cas was a blip and the visitors will be desperate to finally get back to winning ways.

A few injuries and losses have hit the Puddy cats hard and they will view this as their chance to regain wining form and much needed confidence.

The overall improvement in the Vikings is there for all to see compared to last year but they still lack quality in areas and nous to consistently get the wins.

At this moment in time I just don't see where the visitors next win will come from whilst the hosts have bounced back from losses on a regular basis.

For me it'll be a an open game with both teams frail defensively but the form of Hanbury and co will be enough to just get the win here.

DRAGONS v. GIANTS

A clash of two of the biggest packs in the south of france and one of the games of the weekend but Sky will treat us to another Salford v Cas.

The hosts have stuttered at times but remain tough at home whereas the Giants they will want to maintain their winning momentum which sees them comfortably in second spot.

With 2 big packs looking to batter each other into submission how the backs react to that battle will decide this one and i think the home side will edge this one out wide.

A great game in prospect with huge clashes upfront but the Dragons will just have enough fire.

BRONCOS v. SAINTS

Normally this would be a case of "by how many" for the visitors but they arrive on a losing run with a decimated squad through injury and suspension.

The hosts finally scraped a win in the CC against lower league opposition so they should have some confidence but they seriously lack quality, consistency and depth.

This will be closer than you'd expect purely because of the players the visitors have missing but still they should have just enough to scrape a win here.

REDS v. TIGERS

Two teams with a lot of defeats this year although the home sides form has some sort of explanation and mitigating circumstances the visitors just haven't performed other than in three games.

Although they lost the visitors will take some confidence from last week where they at least put in a solid effort whilst the hosts destroyed a part time new club.

This is Coach Noble's first full game in charge so it will be interesting to see if he's had any positive impact as yet but it still doesn't explain why Sky have picked this out for T.V.

I don't think the new coach effect will be enough for the hosts this week especially as they lack decent players all over the park so a much needed away win this week for prodigal son Orr, and his Moonshine band.

KR v. RHINOS

The Champs travel east to the red half of cods-ville where both teams are playing with confidence and have wins under their belts.

The hosts seem to have shaken off their abysmal Bank holiday Monday performance with back to back wins v ST's whilst the Blue 'n' Amber continue to rack up the wins.

I expect a tough game from the hosts but if the visitors continue to show the brutal defence and the passes stick it should be another away win.

It will be close and the visitors will be tested by Dobsons kicking game and the home pack but the Champs have strike all over the park and should get the points.

WOLVES v. BULLS

The GF favourites have yet to show the consistency and skill of the last couple of years but still are capable of putting 50+ on most teams when they click.

The visitors are much improved and when they get it right are a hard team to beat but as yet they don't have the firepower to step up to the next level and that's where they'll fall down this week.

I expect a battling effort from the Odslum mob but the Wolves haven't shown their teeth that often this year and I think they are about to bite.
