rhinoms Superleague XVIII Preview - Round 6
Posted by southstander on March 07 2013 - 16:26:57

by rhinoms

Round six should be the week to lump on the draw, or to back narrow winning margins as the top teams all play each other, and the lower half of the table all have their match-ups.

There are some mouthwatering ties, but wherever you watch your rugby you should be assured of a humdinger.

Our main concern is whether we'll be able to overcome the league leaders at Headingley.

This week we enter Round 6 and after the Giants got pasted at home and Wire lost away, no team remains unbeaten. Nor do we have any looking for their first win after the Broncos hammered Salford which ultimately cost Coach Veivers his job.

Here are this weekends previews.

FC v. TIGERS

After a stunning defeat at Widnes the big spenders return home to face a confident Tiggers who pushed the Pies to the very last minute last time out. As yet we've had the same old "talk a good game of RL but performances are very different" from Cods-Ville and although talisman Ellis is yet to play they can have no excuses fro playing totally inept RL or imploding after an hour.

It's a different story for the Wagon train they roll into town on the back of decent performances and eye catching results fro the right reasons despite off field drama.

This really is must win for the hosts not least for the coach who must be increasingly under pressure after his owners public predictions of the quality of his side for this year.

A tough game but home advantage should see the big money flops scrape home.

RHINOS v. GIANTS

The defending champs are back at HQ after a great hard fought win away at ST's our first for over 5yrs and this week we welcome the regular "pretenders" of SL.

The visitors arrive shell shocked after a good old fashioned pasting against the Dulls last time out and no doubts their coach will expect 200% improvement.

We haven't been too good against the visitors in recent regular SL rounds and they are certainly on the "we owe em one" list so i'd expect another gritty defensive effort with enough flair to take the spoils.

I think it will be tougher than some predict not least after last weeks results but i think we have enough firepower and form to take the points.

WOLVES v. SAINTS

Both teams had to suffer defeats last week and both coaches will demand improvement unfortunately for the visitors they have too many on the casualty list to improve enough to get the win here.

Tony Smith as we all know takes defeat badly and he will see this as a perfect game to get his lads up and running again and back in the winning habit.

It should be entertaining because these games always are but the home side are just too strong at this moment in time.

VIKINGS v. BULLS

Two confident teams meet up at the Stobart but the home sides impressive win last week came at a cost and they've lost their six and right centre for while and with their squad lacking depth it will bite them.

The visitors arrive full of confidence after destroying the unbeaten Giants last week and although missing 1 or 2 themselves they have too much threat in the halves and at 9 for the hosts.

An intriguing battle but the visitors hold the cards in this one. Dulls by 10.

WARRIORS v. DRAGONS

After using their get out of jail card in Cas Vegas last week the hosts welcome the Dragons to the Pie dome.

The visitors arrive after a comeback win against the puddy cats and hoping to improve on recent visits when they've imploded.

Whilst the hosts remain a tough team there's no escaping they miss the quality of Leueui and Finch no mater what coach Wane will say.

This could be a really tough game but that depends on the visitors resolve and discipline and its a game they could win but I think home advantage and last weeks scare give the home side the edge.

BRONCOS v. KR

The host have finally won and won in style after hammering Salford last week they are up and running and confidence will be much better.

This week they face the Jekyll and Hyde of SL one week they blow a 16 point lead against the Pub team of SL the next they are comprehensively beating one of the GF favourites.

Which Robins team turn up will be key to this battle and i think the Wire win last week gives them too much momentum for the hosts to handle.

WILDCATS v. REDS

After an unlucky loss in France last week the Puddy cats return home where they will be determined to get back on the winning trail when the bottom team arrive.

For the visitors after the boost of a win and the arrival of the aussie imports they blew it big time last week and are now coach less.

Whilst their new owner is to be commended for his input maybe leaving out the publicity stunts and sorting out the mess he inherited would be more productive.

A comfortable win for the hosts and 1 more weekend of woe for the Reds faithful.
