rhinoms Superleague XVIII Previews - Round 3
Posted by southstander on February 14 2013 - 09:19:48

Tough games this weekend for the only two hundred percenters as the Giants host Wigan and the Dragons have to travel to the Champions Elect at the Haliwell-Jones.

As well as two crackers at the top, the Rhinos will be looking to put last weeks defeat at Castleford behind them as they get in their final warm-up for the World Club Challenge against whipping boys, the Salford Reds, at Headingley.

It's an intriguing round!

This week we enter round three of the season and as it stands only four teams remain unbeaten. Here are this weeks previews.

RHINOS v. REDS

The battered and bruised Champs return to HQ after getting "out-shouldered" in Cas Vegas last week.

The visitors arrive on the back of another 40+ hiding and even with the hosts five players down this could still get messy.

I really don't see anything other than a pasting and a chance to work on set moves for the home team but as we know we are likely to make plenty of errors as well as score plenty.

SAINTS v. FC

Both teams got their first win last week after suffering comprehensive opening round defeats.

Both teams are missing 1st choice players and for the visitors their big signing Ellis is out for another 10+ weeks.

I'd expect a good battle here but the hosts hold that extra quality at nine plus the visitors look more vulnerable out wide than the Saints.

Some big hits and an entertaining game should be on show but the home side look too strong.

WOLVES v. DRAGONS

Two of the leagues remaining unbeaten teams meet at the HJ in the SKY fixture.

Both have big packs but the visitors are missing their "General" with Deureau still out.

This should be a decent game and again both teams will get stuck in and try to play out wide.

However the extra quality and strike threat is with the home team.

BULLS v. TIGERS

It's the toilet derby at Odslum where the visitors will ride into town on the back of a massive win and an open top horse and cart parade with public holiday and free moonshine.

Both teams have a W and L so this will be a chance to go 2points clear of their opponents Injuries will be key to both thin squads this year so having their own "bog brush" suspended for his weekly sh##-house tackle will hurt the Tiggers.

The hosts look pretty well organised and with Sammutt and Kearney have threats at HB something the visitors will miss this week.

GIANTS v. PIES

The other two unbeaten teams meet at the Tetley's stadium and both look strong but the hosts look in better form with the ball.

For the hosts its a case of proving they aren't just good for 3 months whilst the visitors have to show their still as good with so many quality departures.

Both packs will be mobile and put the grind in so again out-wide will be key to the points.

the home 6 and 7 have the edge imo but at FB the visitors have Rat-Boy and also O"take his head off" in the pack which could just give them the edge.

A tough game to call but the quality the Pies at FB will just take the spoils in this one.

KR v. VIKINGS

This is a must win for the home team after back to back defeats.

The Vikings have started well and will be extra confident after their opening fortnight exploits.

The host certainly have a powerful pack but like the visitors are quite open defensively and if Dobson isn't getting enough quality ball they lack threat.

After a good start the visitors are looking much improved but can they maintain it?

I think it will be close but for me the visitors hold the edge.

BRONCOS v. WILDCATS

Another game where neither defence will be at its strongest.

The hosts have yet to win whereas the visitors are finding their feet after an opening day hiding.

This could be an end to end points fest with both having creativity at HB and proven try scoring threats out wide.

I dont see anything other than an away win unfortunately for the hosts because they have more threats and confidence after last week.

A reasonable effort from the hosts but not enough.
