rhinoms Superleague VXII Previews - Round 16
Posted by southstander on May 30 2012 - 15:43:59

by rhinoms

It was a very good week for SouthStander.com and an okay week for rhinoms. Both failed to spot the shock Giants loss to the Reds and rhinoms wrongly thought that the Tigers would beat the Wildcats.

Special mention to SouthStander.com who guessed the winning margin of three games (Wildcats, KR and the Dragons) within two points of the actual winning margin. Damn those pesky goal kickers!

How will they fare in round sixteen?

Read more here....

This week we start the 2nd half of the SL season and the race for the top8 is expected to get even more heated and even more intense.

Here are this weeks previews.

RHINOS v. WARRIORS

The game of the weekend and looking at the league leaders injuries and suspensions we couldn't have picked a better time to play them.

Saying that all their pivots are fit and firing and IF we repeat the last few indisciplined and lacklustre performances we will still lose.

After an improved second half last week we need to up the gears big time and start our rise up the table and after the last effort at HQ the lads should be in determined mood.

A word of caution though teams who are written off or have nothing to lose for whatever reason are always dangerous and the Pies still have quality within their 17.

This should be a good tough encounter and hopefully the whistle happy Child won't spoil it.

This is the chance to beat the current league leaders and our recent nemesis and we will have enough this time to get the job done.

REDS v. DRAGONS

After their impressive win against the trophy pretenders last week the homeside will be hoping for a repeat effort to show that it was no fluke and continue their rise up the league.

The Dragons arrive after a tougher than expected win against the Broncos looking to improve and maintain their top 4 status.

The hometeam really are unpredictable and they can compete and beat some good teams on their day whilst the Dragons do slip up from time to time.

This should be entertaining with both looking to play open RL but the visitors power up front and quality of their HB's should be enough to get the points.

FC v. SAINTS

It's the battle of the "Derby day losers" this week at the B+W reef.

After last weeks capitulation both teams will be very fired up for this and the visiting Scousers have shown in the past they are very dangerous when they've got the hump.

For Gentles mob they caved in and let their bitter rivals comeback from the dead and show that this lot are not as good as their fans think.

Now is teh time to show that they are serious top 5 contenders but the truth is they've had some good fixtures and soem lucky wins now their slide down teh table starts this weekend.

A contest for an hour but the scousers should have more than enough to steal the points.

KR v. WOLVES

The home side will be buzzing after their last gasp derby win whilst the visitors had an easy training run in the sunshine.

Although confident this is a step up for the home side and their pack will have to be tough against the visitors whilst their defence out-wide will need to improve a hell of a lot.

With Dobson and Green pulling the strings the Rovers will threaten and make a game of it but they lack the overall quality the visitors bring with and without the ball.

Another good game but the Wire top three charge is gaining momentum and won't be stopped this week.

WAKEFIELD v. BRONCOS

The hometeam will be boosted by their well deserved "High Noon" derby win and this week they'll see it as a chance to further boost that confidence. The other "pub team" of SL arrive on the bnack of another beating and already the season cant end soon enough their owner has invested the SC in the squad but someone forgot to tell him to get a coach who knows how to spend it.

Their should be some home grown talent on show for both teams but Wakey have that bit more quality and should get back to back wins.

Another defeat and long depressing journey back down the M1 for the Nags.

VIKINGS v. GIANTS

This week the whipping boys get their weekly pasting off the "pretenders" of SL.

Although for some reason they seem to be boosted by the signing of the Astra Thief for 2013 they still have an awful squad but the arrival of the unloved Mcshane should add to their nine options and give both parties something to prove. Giants by 26.

BULLS v. TIGERS

This week Potters wands return to their RFL hostel and host another poor team when Basils tiggers come to town.

The hosts are really depleted after the weekend through injury and ill health.

After dropping out of the 8 the hometeam will be fired up for this and their will certainly be some resolve after their player was rushed to hospital last week.

For the visitiors they just aren't good enough "Benjamin Button" Orr hasn't got anything left to offer and the over-rated Lorraine has been sussed. A good win for the home side but in context they should be beating poorer teams than them as few as they are.

If you are traveling to game this week enjoy the action and have a safe journey.

I would also like to pass on my best wishes to Adrian Purtell and his family after last weeks events which put our great game into true context. Get well soon Adrian.

Thanks for reading.
