rhinoms Superleague XVII Previews - Round 11
Posted by southstander on April 08 2012 - 13:14:48

by rhinoms

The opening Easter fixtures in round ten were a bit of a mixed bag for our predictors.

SouthStander managed to get the winner right in five out of the seven games, being let down by Leeds and Saints. rhinoms only managed three out of seven but did get the exact winning margin for the Wolves over Widnes (34 points).

Will they fare any better this weekend?

We now enter part two of the Easter weekend bonanza of rugby league here are the previews for Bank Holiday Monday.

TIGERS v. SAINTS

After a convincing win in the Puddy cat derby the hosts welcome a fired up ST's after their own derby ended in bitter defeat.

Basil will hope his side can now kick on after back to back wins but he will also be aware that the visitors are very tough to beat especially after losing to their bitterest rivals.

Both sides will have invested a lot of emotion and energy into their respective Friday fixtures and it's the one left with most in the tank that normally takes the points in the 2nd game of the weekend.

I think the home side will have a dig but the visitors will be far too good and fired up to lose two out of two.

DRAGONS v. WOLVES

The game of the round takes place in Perpignan.

Both teams are showing form and had convincing wins against inferior opposition.

TS was very astute in resting some of his stars for the cruise over the "out of their depth" Widnes side whilst the hosts had too much quality for the forlorn southerners at the stoop.

A real battle in prospect both have huge packs with creative halves and threats from FB and DH.

For the neutral a great game in prospect but I think home advantage should just be enough for the Dragons to fire and get the win.

GIANTS v. FC

A real top of the table clash takes place at the Galpharm.

The visitors will be buzzing after taking the spoils in the "Cod war" but they'll also be more under-done for this battle.

The hosts had a relatively easy game against the inconsistent Reds whilst the B+W's had the intensity of the Derby to contend with.

Again this has the potential to be a good battle and 2 tough teams in form going at it but the home team have the advantages in this one.

I think it will be close but Friday will catch up with Gentles Shoal and Mono-Brow and co will have too much in reserve.

RHINOS v. BRONCOS

This time it's a "bogey" team from last years form slump and the hosts will be desperate not to lose 4 on the bounce.

After throwing Fridays game away the Blue 'n' Amber return home with a big point to prove and the visitors arrive although on the back of a defeat knowing what it takes to win at HQ.

The visitors fell back to earth with thump against the marauding Dragons last time out after nilling Wakey previously whilst the hosts were conspiring to their own downfall at the "Begging Bowl".

Not enough composure and far too many errors seem to be the recent "form guide" of the champs whilst the Broncos go from one pasting to another with the odd win in-between.

It won't be pretty and I don't think we'll see much "Champagne" from two struggling sides looking to turn their form around.

We should have just enough for the win and hopefully we'll get enough quality ball out wide where we have players able to damage the opponents when we aren't going sideways.

REDS v. KR

Both teams were pretty poor last time out and the visitors arrive having been humiliated in their big derby.

The hosts are one of if not the most inconsistent team in the league and it's anybodys guess which team will turn up.

The desperation for the win will be with both teams and both need it to get back on track for a real top eight dig.

The visitors have a big pack and some quality out wide if they can gain momentum whilst the hosts have creative halves and danger out wide but a less explosive pack.

I think the Robins will gain too much ground up the middle and take the spoils in an end-to-end game.

WIDNES v. BULLS

After a pasting at Wire the hosts welcome the "Big Issue" of SL to the Stobart stadium.

The visitors arrive on the back of a morale boosting win against the Champs and Turpin Hood will be buzzing with the amount of he's raked in from the foolish and easily lead.

For the razor gargling home coach he will think with a couple more absentees the visitors are ripe for the taking after all the emotion and endeavor they showed last time out.

However the hosts are as we know the poorest team in the league and the buzz of Friday will be enough to see the visitors record back to back wins before the next round "woe is us".

The hosts will have a dig but not enough and the two points will be added to the collection buckets ready for the next home games firework display.

WARRIOS v. WILDCATS

After battering their local rivals Rat-Boy, Zombie Hock and co welcome the out of form Wakey side.

The visitors have really hit the wall after a fantastic win against the quality dragons a coupe of weeks ago and where they were expected to kick on they've had a slump.

The hosts continue to maintain their good form and give it large after beating a depleted ST's and will EXPECT to cruise in this one aswell. I think the visitors will show more passion than in the last two but they are way off form wise and lack the quality to do any serious damage here. Another cruise for the Pies.
