rhinoms Superleague XVII Previews - Round 3
Posted by southstander on February 15 2012 - 08:52:20

by rhinoms

Last weeks predictions saw correctly predict the winner of four from six, while rhinoms managed three from six.

Both had too much faith in the power of the Rhinos and too little faith in near neighbours Bradford who secured the two points with a win over Ian Millwards' Castleford Tigers.

WIth six Super League fixtures and the World Club Challenge, how will we do this week?

Read more here....

This week we have a World Club Challenge added to the fixtures, so Wakefield get the week off.

Here are my thoughts on this weeks games.

Two Worlds collide at HQ as the Champions from the SL take on the NRL's best for the World Club Challenge.

The Blue 'n' Amber return home after an error ridden defeat at the Pie Dome last time out whilst the visitors arrive after one friendly outing a 30 point spanking by the Sharkies.

Many play this fixture down but you have to be a Champion to compete in it. No doubts the "Home advantage" takes away a lot of the kudos and the fact their comp has yet to start raises questions but it is what it is and there's a Trophy up for grabs and 34 Warriors will doing battle trying to win.

For the home team the message is simple error free, fast flowing RL with tough defence or we'll get spanked because Manly are THAT GOOD and their pack will run riot given the chance.

There are issues for both teams for the Visitors the obvious are the lack of games and only arriving one-week prior (but it worked for the Dragons last year).

For the hosts the 9 spot needs sorting, as do the 6 + 7 roles and our ball handling needs to sharpen 100%.

Despite it's detractors this will be fierce, explosive and 100 mph for 80 minutes both teams have previous and the Poms need to win one back after three years of Oz dominance.

Headingley will be bouncing and that should just be enough this time around.

This week Basil takes his Wagon train to the south of France.

After suffering a shock home defeat to the WC's of Odslum the task gets even tougher this week.

The hosts should be fresh after an enforced week off after their match fell victim to the weather.

The hosts should be hot favourites for the points after their week one destruction of the RFL sponsored pub team who themselves then beat the visitors.

Basil will need all his team firing and much improved from last week but I think it'll be a "Hoe down" too far.

Expect the Tiggers to be no match for the Dragons fire.

The fixture of the SL round at the Galpharm and the hosts have started strong again.

After a stuttering and whinging draw in round one the visitors piled on the points last week to get their mojo back.

This should be a real battle with both having speed and power across the board and it could be anyone's game.

Mono-Brow and the Astra Thief will have to hope their pack can get the momentum going in their favour in order to take the points.

A humdinger and some great match ups but expect the Wolves to have too much bite out wide.

The one win apiece teams meet at the RFL WC this week.

In past years this would have been a stand out fixture but the hosts dramatic fall from grace point out that it should be just another two points for the visitors.

The hosts are buzzing after a shock hard fought win at the Probiz Colon and the Pies arrive after beating the Champs last time out.

It's the Pies youngsters v the Dulls has beens and never will be's Both sides will be confident and expect to be at their best but the Pies will have too much filling for the hosts and leave the home crowd crustless and frustrated.

The Gentle touch will be refreshed after the enforced week off last time out.

This week the hapless Broncos gallop into the KC and arrive winless. The hosts have a draw to their name so they'll be looking to get up and trawling in the SL with a much needed win.

The visitors who usually start the season strong have stared how they finished last year with defeats coming thick and fast.

I think it will be a test for 50 minutes or so then expect the hosts to sail away with it and seal the points.

The luckless hosts enter this week without their mercurial 7 which added to the loss of Galea and Green makes this weeks game a ST's certainty.

The hosts have started the season in good spirits and battling form but the injury list is just too much this week.

The visitors arrive after finally overcoming a stubborn Reds team on their opening party night.

The Red Mullets have a tough pack but without halves it will be pointless and even if the Scousers are still missing blue circle Wellens and co they'll have too much for the home team.

This week the Reds have to "man up" and take on the I pitch and the newcomers at the Stobart stadium.

The hosts were well battered by the Giants and already desperation will be setting in as they seek out that first win.

This is the chance for the visitors to get their season up and running and they'll hope for an 80 minute performance rather than the two previous games efforts.

Old "razor blade gargling" Betts will need the excuses and clichés ready after another SL defeat.

Have a great night at Headingley and cheer the lads on to become World Champions, then enjoy the rest of the weekends rugby.

Thanks for reading.
