2012 Fixtures Announced
Posted by southstander on November 25 2011 - 06:01:17

The Rhinos start their 2012 campaign and title defence with a home game against the Robins on the 3rd February. Surprisingly the game isn't being shown live on SKY who have opted for Widnes first game back in the top flight when they take on Wakefield Wildcats.

The opening weekend also sees perennial runners-up Saints travel to the newly renamed London Broncos, and Challenge Cup winners Wigan are at home to the Giants.

The other televised match of the weekend is Salford against Castleford.

And there are a few other surprises, read more here....

We were already aware that the Rhinos round three game would be postponed to make way for the World Club Challenge. Headingley will host Manly on the 18th February and the game against the Wakefield Wildcats will be deferred to a later date during the season.

The Rhinos have the hardest possible preparation for the WCC game as they travel to Wigan in round two for an early saturday evening game in front of the SKY TV cameras.

The RFL have decided not to take in a long-distance weekend in 2012, instead opting for a complete round of games at the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City Football Club. The Rhinos will, once again, take on the Bradford Bulls in this extra fixture with days and times of all games still to be announced. The away weekend will comprise round fifteen, on the 26th and 27th May.

The Challenge Cup starts on the 14th April and with cup rounds and Superleague alternating weeks we'll know the semi-finalists by the 14th May, but we'll have to wait until the 15th and 16th July to see the semi's take place.

Many peoples first check through the fixtures is to look for the away Catalans Dragons fixture. This year we travel to the south of France on the 18th August, the weekend before the Challenge Cup Final.

The Rhinos regular season ends in the same way that it did in 2011 with a trip to the Galpharm to take on the Huddersfield Giants. Lets hope that is a good omen for a successful title defence.
