Burrow Nails His Colours to the Rhinos Mast
Posted by southstander on June 07 2005 - 12:05:22

Rob Burrow has today put a smile on the faces of Rhinos fans, as well as that of his bank manager, by signing a five year deal which will keep him at Headingley until the end of the 2010 season.

Burrow joins Sinfield and McGuire on long-term contracts which will ensure that the 'Holy Trinity' will continue to thrill the SouthStand faithful for many years to come.

This is another major piece in the Hetherington future jigsaw.

Rob is this seasons equal top try scorer at Headingley with twenty tries in eighteen games, and has taken over the mantle of Danny McGuire who has been out for most of this season through injury.

Born in Castleford, Burrow signed for the Rhinos as a junior and has made no secret of his ambition to play his entire career with the Rhinos. He made his debut against Warrington, scoring the Rhinos only try in a 36-6 loss in April 2001, so his new contract will take him within sixteen months of the start of his testimonial season.

Born in september 1982, Burrow will now be twenty-eight when his new contract ends, ensuring that the Rhinos have secured his services for the best years of his life.

Commenting on, Burrow said;

“I’m delighted to have agreed a new long term contract. I have never wanted to play for any other club and now I have secured my future for the next part of my life. There is a great group of players here at the club and I want to be part of something special. There is still a lot of room for improvement and growth both personally and as a team and I am looking forward to doing that over the next couple of years.”

Gary Hetherington added;

““It is unusual to give someone a five year contract however when Rob joined the club as a junior he made no secret of the fact that he only ever wanted to play for Leeds and he remains as committed to the club now five years on. He was keen to sign a long term contracted and we were happy to offer it to him.

“With Danny McGuire and Kevin Sinfield both having signed contract extensions in the last six months we now have the core of our team secured for the best years of their rugby careers. All three are special players with terrific personalities and it is comforting for the players to see how committed they are to each other.” ”

Well done Rob, were delighted that you have nailed your colours to the Rhinos mast. You've really come of age this season and stepped up a level to show that you have really got what it takes at the highest level. Here's to five more years!
