rhinoms Superleague XVI Previews - Round 22
Posted by southstander on July 14 2011 - 08:27:01

by rhinoms

It's the first of a Rhinos double-header against Hull FC as a Superleague meeting acts as the curtain-raiser for the cup game on the 24th July.

Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves both appear to have byes ahead of their Challenge Cup meeting as they take on Wakefield and Harlequins respectively.

This week we enter round 22 and the top 8 is still to be decided.

Here are my thoughts on this weeks games.

RHINOS v. FC

Sponge bob Agar brings his reef to HQ this week in what promises to be a vital SL game in both teams top 8 challenge.

The hosts are going from bad to worse and the valiant effort against the Pies a couple of weeks ago are now seen as "one-offs" rather than the norm in terms of us competing with the top 4.

With Bizarre team selections, no sign of improvement, ridiculous subs routine and the same post match interview week after week this could actually be the time we hear the faithful displaying their contempt for our coaching set up.

With Mc and Lowes getting as popular as News of the World Journo it's time for GH to take note and rectify the mistake of his coaching appointments. A really tough game and hopefully the home team will show some sole and mussle up and send the visitors trawling home pointless.

Hopefully pride will get us through this one.

SAINTS v. DRAGONS

Two teams bang in form meet in Widnes and two great examples of decent coaches getting more out of depleted sides.

This promises to be a humdinger with the power of the dragons guided by Dureau against the speed and skill of KFC, Lomax and co.

The visitors will show their fire and look to burn the local pick-pockets but experience of the big games this time of year will keep Fagin Simmons' mob one step ahead.

A great effort from the visitors but not quite enough to prevent the 2 pts getting lifted for the home team.

WARRIORS v. WILDCATS

The Pies get the bye this week when JK's shot team visit the Pie-dome. The visitors have made a great effort this year but lack of quality and experience has finally caught up so for them it's time to plan for next year.

This is an opportunity for the home team to rest some of their regulars before next weeks battle royal CC match against Wire.

CRUSADERS v. TIGERS

Another of the whipping boys welcome a top 8 contender in Wrexham. The wagon train rolls west in fine spirits after a thrilling win against the Grattan pub team last week.

The banjoes and fiddles will be "pluck ready" and even missing their fiddler talisman Chase the visitors will be too strong.

For the hosts just like Wakey the season can't end soon enough as once again they fail to get a win.

Time to re-group and write the season off as an "experience" for rookie coach Harris.

QUINS v. WOLVES

Another fixture where the top of the table side can comfortably rest it's stars in prep for next week.

Quins like the other whipping boys will duly get a hiding and no surprise they have more loans than Greece and the same resolve as the Greek economy.

KR v. REDS

The red mullets are finally finding some form and netting some wins. The visitors arrive with a stinging assessment of their last effort from new coach Parish.

2 of the most unpredictable teams and both still hope for the 8 so an exciting game is possible.

It can really go either way depending how well both teams play and concentrate for 80 minutes.

I think last weeks hiding will help the visitors focus and play well enough for the win leaving the Robins shell-shocked and bobbing along in a whimper.

BULLS v. GIANTS

Coach Potter finally knows his wand is spell-less to prevent another season without play-offs at the pothole.

The names may have changed and the reinforcements may have looked ok on paper and in number but it's the same outcome Bulls=poor and out of the 8. The visitors will be fired up by the return of Mono-brow and look to show they are still the real deal after recent performances have showed otherwise.

Too much power and skill will see the Giants ease to the win and get their top 3 challenge back on track.
