On 18th June 2011 one of the most inspiring campaigners of our time passed away. If only we had a Brian Haw-esque campaigner on the edge of Morrisons car park in Kirkstall opposite the Rhinos training ground then Brian McDermott might have left his head coaching position by now. For ten and a bit years Brian Haw was the voice of reason on parliament square campaigning for peace whilst our politicians were lobbying for war. He may not have got through to those in Westminster but I知 sure he値l be the inspiration for someone that does.
However, I知 not expecting any Rhinos fan to set up a makeshift camp opposite the training ground soon. Perhaps more realistically we could take inspiration from the recent attempt by the Spaniards to start a revolution by venting their collective anger in squares all across Spain. Rhinos fans that are up in arms about the current situation at Headingley could come together for a demonstration to show Gary Hetherington that his measures within the Rhinos organisation are unacceptable. If Salford fans can push Bomber (I wish him all the best for the future) out then surely Rhinos fans can push Brian McDermott out?
Then again you look at the failed attempts by Manchester United fans to get rid of the Glazer family at their club. I知 sure that this is one of many failed attempts by fans to see right at their clubs. A fans two pennies worth will always be pretty much ignored by clubs if they can. We will always be the bottom of the pecking order when it comes to making a point because there is a big difference between the professional and the fan. Otherwise why aren稚 the fans running the club?
Perhaps the best us Rhinos fans can get out of this season is nostalgia from the past and the promises of the future. One of the greatest joys this season has been the emergence of Paul Macshane and Zak Hardaker. Two players that have been pretty much injury free compared to the hype of Ben Jones Bishop and Kallum Watkins. Even them two were a great pair to watch earlier in the season. I知 done with complaining for this season and I知 going to spend the rest of it finding praise in the Rhinos club which is been overshadowed by the dark forces of Brian McDermott and James Lowes.
