The Damo Bit - 7th June 2011
Posted by southstander on June 07 2011 - 10:15:19

This week our regular columnist Damo is getting all excited about the England v. Exiles game.

But who will he be supporting?

I shall be getting behind the Exiles team in this Fridays International Origin match. Some may see me as some kind of traitor, so let me explain. Throughout Super League we have seen many good and bad players from the southern hemisphere playing rugby league on these shores. I feel that this exiles team celebrates everyone that has come a long way to earn a living and grace us with their rugby league ability. Iíve certainly enjoyed more than a handful of them.

My favourite player to come over here and play was Tonie Carroll for Leeds Rhinos. Especially in his first season in 2001 where he became an instant hit at Headingley thanks to scoring 23 tries in 28 games. Unfortunately his second season was plagued by injury and he was on his way back home after just two delightful seasons. Brisbane Broncos was his only other club in his career so Iím forever grateful that he didnít become a one club man. Thanks for the memories Tonie!

The best overseas player Iíve ever seen live would have to be Jamie Lyon. He was an absolute joy to watch at centre unless it was against Leeds Rhinos of course. In his debut season of 2005 he became only the fourth Australian to win the man of steel and got selected in the dream team. Talking of dream teams, Iím going to put my all-time super league exiles dream team together and I do hope that I get it right. Either way itíll be exciting to see what your dream teams are!

Here is mine:

1.Brett Hodgson(Huddersfield Giants & St Helens)
2.Darren Albert(St Helens)
3.Jamie Lyon(St Helens)
5.Lesley Vainikolo(Bradford Bulls)
6.Rangi Chase(Castleford Tigers)
7.Micheal Dobson(Wigan Warriors & Hull KR)
8.Kylie Leuluai(Leeds Rhinos)
9.Danny Buderus (Leeds Rhinos)
11.Tony Puletua(St Helens)
12.Ben Galea(Hull FC)
13.Craig Fitzgibbon(Hull FC)

Bench: Ali Lauitiiti (Leeds Rhinos), David Solomona (Wakefield Trinity Wildcats), Bradford Bulls & Warrington Wolves), Willie Manu (Castleford Tigers & Hull FC) & Iafeta Paleaaesina (Wigan Warriors & Salford City Reds).

Iím really struggling to fit in a 4 and a 10. What is your dream team?
