rhinoms Superleague XVI Previews - Round 6
Posted by southstander on March 17 2011 - 09:39:30

by rhinoms

There are some mouthwatering prospects on the cards for this weekends fixtures most notably the high-flying Giants against the defending champions and the Rhinos hosting arch-rivels St. Helens.

Many of the games are tough to call, so how will our pundits do?

Read more here....

This week we enter round 6 with some interesting fixtures and fireworks expected!

Here are my thoughts on the weekends games.

CRUSADERS v. DRAGONS

Two of the "expansion" teams meet this week in Wrexham and both will be desperate for morale boosting wins.

The hosts were again well beaten in Cods-ville this time the Red half and their "Big Willie" inflicted the damage.

The visitors arrive on the back of a defeat they grasped from the jaws of victory down in the Jungle.

Both have untried young coaches eager to prove their credentials and it should make for an entertaining encounter although maybe not a well attended one.

I think the visitors will have the appetite for this one and take the spoils.

FC v. WILDCATS

The hosts return to the Reef this week well and truly shell shocked after losing to the 12 man Pies.

For JK he takes his unloved puddy cats back to where he had success before the crazy call to ditch him.

Although the visitors were well beaten by the Dogged Wolves last time out they put in a spirited display and can take confidence into this weeks match.

The hosts will be missing "sick-note Stig and have lost Yeaman to suspension for not taking any slaver off the Tompkins brats.

Another creditable effort by JK's lads but not enough.

REDS v. KR

The hosts return home on the back of a good old fashioned hiding last time out and welcome the Red Mullets and their Willie Circus.

Still missing their head coach the onus will fall on Simms to turn around the shocking effort they put in during the 2nd half at HQ last week. Coach Morgan will be hoping the "Willie" factor can continue its momentum whilst offsetting the loss of General Dobson and carry them to another two points.

The rebuilt Reds are in serious bother confidence and talent wise and the wholesale changes are yet to bear fruit.

GIANTS v. WARRIORS

The game of the weekend and a chance for the Giants to reinforce their early season top 4 billing.

The Pies arrive minus SL Brats the Tompkins brothers and the AWOL Gleeson. The defending champs got out of jail last week against the Cods at the Pie-dome but this will be a very harder test of their squad and resolve and one they'll fail.

The hosts had a blip at Cas the other week but will be looking to build on their destruction of the "Pot hole" dwelling pub team from down the road.

RHINOS v. SAINTS

The two Grang Final regulars meet at HQ with both missing Quality and tipped for "Transitional phases".

The hosts built their confidence back up last week with a rout against the poor reds out-fit and managed to do it without 5 recognised Props. Both teams will have quality absentees due to injuries and "other issues" so it may reduce the amount of skill on show but it won't reduce the entertainment value or dilute the intense rivalry.

The pressure will be on the strawberry blonde cuddly one and the dynamic Roby to lead their team to a much-needed win after failing to get a home 2pts thus far.

Expect plenty of fireworks and confrontation as these two really do dislike each other but with the visitors are missing their hide 'n' seek champ and the Union bound spoilt stale breaded boned Brat the hosts should have just enough for the win.

Rhinos by 10.

WIRE v. QUINS

The early season form team entertain the "surprise" package of the SL thus far when they host the high flying Quins.

The hosts are back at home after a much harder than expected win at Wakey last time out and will be hoping they don't become the visitors latest high profile victims after their wins on the road at Headingley and in Widnes. Expect the hosts to start all guns firing and to try and blow away the visitors early on but they could come unstuck if the southern team get to impose their game and get plenty of ball to their 3 musketeers.

A decent game in prospect and another test both teams will relish but with the home team having Too much Bite this time around.

BULLS v. TIGERS

The unbeaten wagon train rolls into the Gratten Pot Hole this week and the Banjoes are blazing.

For the hosts they return hoping to improve 110% on their last outing when the harsh realities of the talent levels of their Squad have were exposed ruthlessly.

This could well prove to be the last chance the hosts have to convince their "Netto" priced season ticket holders there is hope for them this year before the crowds dessert them once again.

Whilst the pressure mounts on the over-hauled home team the last thing they need is a tough task against their unbeaten barn-dancing visitors. More high 6's and the "fiddle factor" to continue.
