The Positives and Negatives of Some of Our Rivals Next Year!
St Helens Vikings, Bradford Bulls and Castleford Tigers are the three fixtures that I most look forward to during a regular season. I also want, with all my heart, to be witness to some of our previous years conquests, as I’m sure that you do too!
Positive: The Marketing team at Odslum have managed to delude a majority of Bulls fans into thinking that 'Bull Mania' is back. One Bradford Bulls fan has likened this to a snowball rolling down a hill, thanks to things to be appearing bigger and better about the club every time you hear about them. Unfortunately for them this is a snowball that’ll melt in the summer months, as the snow always does. The attendances will look good for the game or two, but in the end the experience of attending these games for the Bulls fans will be too painful.
Negative: Mick Gledhill providing commentary of Bulls Games on the local hospital radio. Expect miracle recoveries on match days as patients request an early leave in droves. The coalition Government will catch onto this and recruit Mick as part of the drive to cut hospital numbers down nationally. Before long, Mick will be ranked alongside needles and hospital food as the main reason why people don’t bother getting treatment.
Rhinos Déjà vu Wish: I want to see Lee Smith score two tries against the Bulls like he did in this fixture last year. Hopefully this time we’ll win though.
Positive: Jonathan Walker to get his comeuppance after he put in a big hit against Luke Burgess last season. If he can dish out such monstrous tackles, then surely it’s only fair that he can take them. I don’t wish injury on him, but it’d be nice to see the wind taken out of his sail.
Negatives: Gareth Thomas could be returning to the ground with Crusaders. Most fans will migrate back to Elland Road when Leeds United are promoted back into the Premier League.
Rhinos Déjà vu Wish: I want to see Kevin Sinfield have another amazing game like he did in 2009 against the Castleford Tigers. That game was best remembered for the weather and the fact that at the time it was our first win at the Jungle in five years. Relive that Match here.
St Helens Vikings
Positive: For the second time in the SuperLeague era, Widnes has a rugby league team to be proud of in the shape of St Helens Vikings. After spending many years playing in front of dwindling crowds at Knowsley Road, The Saints decided to replicate what many American franchise sports teams do by relocating themselves to a more financially well off area.
Negative: Glory supporting Widnes fans who’ve decided to attend their first rugby league game since the early nineties will soon realize that this lot are nothing like the Widnes team that conquered the world back in the days.
Rhinos Déjà vu Wish: 2007 Grand Final Please! Match Report here.
Again big thanks to the respective match reporters in this week’s damobit - Paul's Brother and Paul himself. A big thanks to Rlphotos as well!
So what do you want to Relive all again in 2011?
