All's Weller at the Rhinos
Posted by southstander on November 19 2010 - 11:26:08

New signing
The Rhinos have taken advantage of the Crusaders liquidation 'fire sale' and secured the signature of highly rated back row forward Weller Hauraki.

The New Zealand Maori signs for the Rhinos on a three year seal with immediate effect and will take the number 20 shirt into pre-season training with the rest of the squad next monday morning.

Hauraki had been linked with a number of teams since the end of the Superleague XV season but the Rhinos were always the favourites to secure his signature.

Hauraki chose the Rhinos over offers from the NRL which would have seen him return home and it has been reported that he is 'really excited about the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.'.

Weller is twenty-five years old and comes to the Rhinos in his prime having played 32 times for Paramatta through the 2007-09 seasons and having scored a startling eleven tries in 27 appearances for the Crusaders last year. He also has two representative caps for the New Zealand Maori.

Weighing in at 16 st and standing 6'1" he is considered an explosive runner and a solid and aggressive defender and impressed against the Rhinos in 2010 when he scored a brace in the Crusaders shock win in June.

It is a long-rumoured signing, which has now been announced, although the details of when the deal was done have not been confirmed. There is no doubt that Wellers addition to the squad is an exciting one which will be welcomed by all Rhinos fans, and will add yet another dynamic to the Rhinos game.

Weller, welcome!
