Mr X Speaks - 3rd November 2010
Posted by southstander on November 03 2010 - 11:05:23

by Mr X

This week Mr X has all the answers, even before the questions are asked.

Now there's a neat trick.

Read more here....

This weeks column I'm starting very differently to previous weeks, I'm giving you three answers. These are as follows;

Answer 1: "Yes Obviously....but the exposure wouldn't be pleasant...and imagine the cost?!"

Answer 2: "He should be forced to apologise to Mr Archer"

Answer 3: "Without a shadow of doubt"

Now Answer 1 was given to a friend who last week gave me the question "Would you like to see Rugby League as popular as Premiership football?". My mate is a devoted Leeds United fan and sometimes fan of Leeds Rhinos and Rugby League but his question to me got me thinking and to be fair my answer sums up my thoughts to a T. Yes the game would benefit however the nasty cloud that is the word 'Greed' would hang over the game and players would want stupid amounts of cash for what they do, plus clubs would hike up ticket prices meaning that every day folk, the lifeblood of our game, couldn't afford to go.

Answer 2 is a simple one. What should we do to the person at League Express publication who came up with the headline "The Man Who Beat England?" with a picture of Tony Archer on the front page, really? For a publication who are usually spot on this seemed to almost reach tabloid level of journalism and was very poor, the ref didn't make eleven changes to a match squad, didn't make handling errors, and didn't leave huge gaps for players to break through. Blaming a ref in a game is an easy way to paper over the cracks as to why we got beat, maybe that's where League Express should look...

Answer 3 relates to the question "Has Super League killed our International game?" Think pre-1995 and our International game was doing OK (Yes the Aussies still beat us..) however, we could tour with our heads high and our players had recognition in the media (people knew who Chariots was). You look at our International game now and players just look weak and poor to me and these boys would have been no where near International level 10/15 years ago.

Here's a question for you, Where do you see Super League and our International game in 10 years time? Be honest... Mr X
