McGuire Our Player of the Season
Posted by southstander on October 29 2010 - 11:31:10

No Surprise Winner
It will come as no surprise to Rhinos fans that the SouthStander.com Player of the Season, voted for weekly by users of the site, is Danny McGuire.

This is the second time that Danny has picked up the top SouthStander.com accolade, his first win being in the Grand Final winning season of 2004.

Find out more here....

Dannys' 2010 season ended a game before the rest of the squad when he got injured in the dying seconds of the play-off win over the Wigan Warriors. Already operated upon, and on crutches, he had the disappointment of seeing his side lose out a fortnight later to the same opposition. It was a night where we could really have used his mercurial skills.

In 2010 McGuire scored 25 tries in 28 appearances (including the World Club Challenge) amassing 100 points in Blue & Amber. Of those twenty-five tries, six of them came in hat-tricks against the Bulls and the Dragons.

Danny made his debut in July 2001 (v. Salford) which suggests he should be in line for a testimonial starting mid-way through next year, hopefully he will have regained full fitness by then and be back playing an active role in the Rhinos push for 2011 honours. In a nine season career to date he has scored 173 tries in 224 appearances (188 + 36 sub).

This year he recorded 113 points in the weekly round votes, easily pipping the 2008 winner Jamie Peacock (88 points) and Kevin Sinfield (winner 2005 & 2009) with 83 points, into second and third.

No one can deny that Danny McGuire is a worthy winner of the Player of the Season accolade.
