The Damo Bit - 28th September 2010
Posted by southstander on September 28 2010 - 08:36:40

With his beloved Rhinos out of the race to Old Trafford Damo finds himself not knowing what to focus his weekly column attention on.

It's been a busy old week in our great game.

I wasnít too sure what to write this week because I had that many choices. First of all there was Leeds losing to Wigan which not only marked the end of our rich reign of form in this end of season competition, it marked the end of Scott Donaldís rugby career with the Rhinos. In hindsight he went out on top because not many players get to reach the heights that heís reached in his career - never mind end them on a high.

Then thereís the departure of Francis Cummings and Willie Poaching whose backroom contracts havenít been renewed for next season. Both such great servants to our club and I wish them all the best wherever they end up.

I could write about the man of steel awards by congratulating the people whoíve won something at this end of season ceremony. Well done to all those who put in a top effort in our game week in, week out.

Then I could write about a long apology letter to Wigan fans for predicting (in last weeks damo bit) that they wouldnít be in the Grand Final and it would be Leeds. Well Iíve been proven wrong and all the best to Wigan on Saturday.

Another thing I could write about is the England v Cumbria match thatís going on next week. It should be an absolute cracker that one. I personally think that this occasion showcases the best of the rugby league community. Gary Purdham would be proud.

The stuff I could write about for this weeks Damo Bit could go on. All I can do is thank rugby league for providing me with material for this hobby.
