Mr X would like to apologise first and foremost this week. I didn’t have a clue where to start this week with my column or even what to feature in this weeks article. So what I have decided to do is go over what's happening in the 'right now' and give my thoughts over certain things we are all aware of this week.
First up 'Mr Wigan' Himself, Phil Clarke! Now freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, everyone has it and can use it, but there are times and places where the ability to think before vocalising, let alone writing, should be considered. This is one of those moments! There is a wonderful Rugby League charity called Try Assist (formerly the Rugby League Benevolent Fund ) who look after injured players and help with looking after their life’s. Phil (as a Trustee of Try Assist) do us a favour, ask yourself why the “rugby gods” did that to those lads!
The RFL disciplinary panel needs a shake up, or at least a ruling regarding ex-pros from clubs being on the panel when judging player(s) from their former clubs. Two former Wigan players being on the panel after the Wigan v Leeds game was always going to be an interesting conflict, so their players being let off did smell very fishy.
This weekend also sees the final game ever at Knowsley Road. Yes it's falling down and the facilities aren’t great but it has been a great place to watch a Rugby League game. The best moment, as a Leeds fan at Knowsley Road, has to be Ali Running the length of the field and outpacing Wellens to score a try, a truly memorable moment.
This weekend's two fixtures look brilliant on paper, the game at Headingley could go either way and the first half for me could be the most important in any game in Super League this season. If Leeds let Wigan get a try or two lead, will they have the fortitude to get back into the game?
The game at Knowsley Road looks an easy contest with a win for St Helens, however, I fully expect the Giants to compete with the Saints, it's play-off Football and last week against Wire the Giants turned in a strong pack dominated performance to beat the favourites. Can they do it again this week?
Lets see what the Rugby Gods want to give us this week!
Till next week...Mr X
