rhinoms Superleague XV Previews - Round 26
Posted by southstander on August 19 2010 - 08:49:43

by rhinoms

Two weeks left and the prize fund stands at a paltry 3.82. We'll keep the previews and bettings going throughout the play-offs but our pundits really do need to do better. Myself included.

Thanks to rhinoms for all his hard work so far this season and hopefully you'll continue to enjoy reading the previews right up to the Rhinos Grand Final victory!

This is the penultimate weekend in SL and a week before the Cup Final, which makes some of the fixtures very intriguing. Here are my thoughts on the upcoming games.

The champs arrive back at HQ after a crushing away win in Deliverance country.

However the win came at a heavy price with the news that young gun Biffa and club Machine JP will miss the rest of the year.

This week the visitors are the Catalans who arrive with absolutely nothing to play for, and the heart of an Italian infantry regiment. With the club still going for 4th and Wembley a week away its serious dilemma time for Bluey who to pick and who to rest.

I'm expecting young guns like Ambler and Clarkson to feature in a scrappy game with the French intent on spoiling tactics but ultimately we'll get the spoils and hopefully a clean bill of health.

Another intriguing battle in prospect at the HJ with the hosts still intent on a 2nd place finish and the visitors desperate to "net" 4th ahead of the champs.

Tony Smith knows all about having "elite" players injured for a Cup Final and having witnessed what's happened across the border does he risk his stars or gamble on a makeshift team getting the job done?

Either way a tough encounter is promised and sponge-bobs plankton have only one thing on their minds and that's getting 4th.

I think TS will mix it up but hope his selection gambles pay off, and I think it will.

The taffs are back on home soil after getting "Trawled" out of a win in cods-ville last time out.

They will be hoping for better luck against the strawberry blonde plump kid and his shell suited pals.

The visitors are in a battle of their own for 2nd now their cup dreams are over and they have "cocksure" Eastmond back and firing after their destruction of the laughing st.......sorry Bulls.

I think the Leeks will fight hard but come up short against a determined St's.

Well what a treat for Grattan land fill faithful and the tumbleweed that attend home games this week.

A host outfit with the desire and heart of a soggy kit-kat versus an inept finished Wakey outfit.

In fairness the puddy cats showed a bit of spirit in defeat last week whereas the hosts were chasing shadows around a merseyside slum.

A mistake riddled battle is in promise but still no celebrations for the home team Wakey by 8.

The home team will be looking to bounce back after their crushing defeat at the hands of their big city neighbours.

For the visitors they are reeling from the news their coach has had enough "jellied eels" and empty home games and is heading back north to re-join the champs.

Worrying times for the southern misfits with players leaving and no major signings to announce and their season was over a while ago so they are only going through the motions.

The "high sixes" will be flying around come full time and the "hoe down" will be in full swing when they rekindle their top 8 hopes.

The hosts will be buzzing after a "smash and grab" effort at the pie-dome last time out but it proved costly with messrs Griffin and Mason picking up bans.

The visitors are planning for 2011 already with new signings announced and ground plans revealed and that showed when they got hammered at home last week.

Even with players missing I expect the hosts to have too much for the Reds who are planning their jollies.

A real battle royal in prospect after the "league leaders" elect fluffed their lines and were left with gravy all down their shirts last time out.

The Robins are showing real play off form and haven't given up on 5th or even 4th if others mess up.

The visitors will be hoping to show last week was a blip and they are as "super-human" as Clarke and their faithful would have you believe. The Robins will have thoughts of last years play-off disaster and I honestly think revenge will be served up hard and cold.
