U21's to Finally Take on Dewsbury
Posted by southstander on May 19 2005 - 10:29:38

In the centres
by Matthew Horton

The Rhinos Senior Academy are back in action tonight as they travel to the Tetley's Stadium (Ram Stadium to you and me) in Dewsbury to take on the Rams. This game is a "home" game for the Rhinos and admission for Season Ticket holders is free. The game kicks off at 7.30pm.

We preview the game here.

With the Junior Academy Origin game at the weekend it means that Leeds will be without Ashley Gibson and Danny Williams who will be sporting the White Rose plus Joe Walsh who turns out for Lancashire. Jamie I'Anson (Yorkshire Squad) although named in the squad will start at hooker for the Rhinos. Also missing are Gareth Morton (trial period expired and no contract offered) and Scott Murrell (First Grade call-up).

This means a multitude of changes. Francis Cummins returns after his injury at Featherstone to replace Williams, Chris Buttery moves to the centre to accommodate the loss of Gibson and Mike Ratu steps up from the Under 18's to replace Morton. Iain Gordon gets Murrell's jumper at stand off and Jason Hart gets the nod into the second row to replace Buttery. Michael Haley, impressive in the 18's win at Salford last week get his second interchange spot and Luke Gale and Dean Townend also step up to make their 21's debut. Its a very youthful Rhinos side, even at this level as all players apart from Gardner and Cummins are classed as Under 19's. With Murrell's call up it now means that four of this seasons Under-21's squad have made the step up to first grade.

Your Rhinos side tonight is 1. Jordan Tansey; 2. Francis Cummins, 3. Mike Ratu, 4. Chris Buttery, 5. Matt Gardner; 6. Iain Gordon, 7. John Gallagher; 8. Luke Burgess, 9. Jamie I'Anson, 10. Luke Stenchion, 11. Jason Golden, 12, Jason Hart, 13. Carl Ablett; 14. Luke Gale, 15. Michael Haley, 16. Dean Townend, 17. Dave Tootill.

This game is being staged at the third time of asking after earlier postponements both at Headingley and Tetley's Stadium. Dewsbury did not enter the grading phase but have made a positive start to the season, despite only winning one game against Doncaster (38-26). There have been defeats against Salford (20-50) and Huddersfield (26-30) before running Castleford close last time out. (16-22).

If your in the area, get down and cheer the lads on. Kick off is at 7.30 and entry is free for season ticket holders.

A match report will appear on the main site on Friday morning.
