Fourth or Fifth - We Take a Guess
Posted by southstander on August 03 2010 - 13:44:00

Not this year
With just three games remaining in Superleague XV it is clear that we can't win the 'Hub Cap', but where will we finish the regluar season?

Ludicrously we could still end the season in second spot, although that would require both Saints and the Wolves both losing their last three games. Worryingly we could also finish seventh, should we implode over the remaining games of the season. But who plays who and what is the likely look of the end of season table?

We give our best guess here...

The current league table standings (top 8) are as follows;

PosTeamPointsDifference
1
Warriors
40
+471
2
Wolves
34
+337
3
Saints
34
+315
4
Hull FC
30
+5
5
Rhinos
29
+82
6
Giants
27
+255
7
Hull KR
27
+21
8
Tigers
20
-88

The following is my prediction of how the sides will fare in their remaining three matches;

Warriors v. Giants (loss), Hull KR (Win), Bulls (win) - finishing on 44 points and crowned Minor Premiers.

Wolves v. Wildcats (win), Hull FC (win), Harlequins (win) - finishing on 40 points.

Saints v. Bulls (win), Crusaders (loss), Tigers (win) - finishing on 38 points.

Hull FC v. Crusaders (win), Wolves (loss), Rhinos (loss) - finishing on 32 points.

Rhinos v. Tigers (win), Dragons (win), Hull FC (win) - finishing on 35 points.

Giants v. Warriors (loss), Salford (win), Dragons (win) - finishing on 31 points.

Hull KR v. Salford (win), Warriors (loss), Crusaders (loss) - finishing on 29 points.

Tigers v. Rhinos (loss), Harlequins (win), Saints (loss) - finishing on 22 points and possibly dropping out of the play-offs.

This would give a final league table of;

PosTeamPoints
1
Warriors
44
2
Wolves
40
3
Saints
38
4
Rhinos
35
5
Hull FC
32
6
Giants

7
Hull KR
29
8
Tigers
22

For the Rhinos it will all come down to the last game of the season at the KC to see whether we make the fourth spot or whether we go straight into sudden death rugby in fifth. Fourth will see us travel to the JJB but safe in the knowledge that we'd get a second chance. Fifth would see us at home against the eventual eighth placed side but if we win that then we have to likely play Saints for a shot at the semi-final.

Put the date in your diary - Friday 3rd September at the KC Stadium - one not to be missed!
