David Bywaters Player Appraisal - 'Cats Home
Posted by southstander on June 09 2010 - 21:35:00

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are David’s thoughts about Friday’s game against Wakefield at Headingley ;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb7Lovely pass for Donald’s try but at fault for Obst’s try and once again was unable to keep his mouth shut resulting in a needless penalty
2Donald8Very good all round display, very willing worker when required to take the ball in and took his try well
3Delaney9Big game – tackled himself to near exhaustion,;really put his shoulder to the grind stone in taking the ball to the line
4Smith7One of his better games since his return his effort and commitment to the team can never be questioned - difficult to leave him out after this
5Hall7A bit like Donald very solid game whilst not the out and out speed of Donald his is deceptively solid ball in hand – sometimes just lack composure when he breaks the line
6Sinfield9Quality performance, superb offload for both McGuire’s and Buderus’ try and near perfect kicking – his link with McGuire is something that should not easily be changed
7McGuire7Brilliant footwork for his try but for me Danny was caught in possession far too often
8Leulai7Couple of big runs and a couple of big hits but the number of times he goes for a tackle and doesn’t lay a finger on the player is an issue. Once again was unable to play the ball correctly
9Buderus9My MOM - Magnificent, a class apart tonight, if he had played the whole eighty the victory would have been a lot easier.
10Kirke7A typical Kirke display – lot of endeavor just a small lack of ability – but his contribution cannot be ignored
11Ablett8Brilliant offload for the JJB try, a very polished performance from a high quality player
12Pitts7Played his part in a solid performance. Looks like a player who is desperate to play and is curbing his natural game to avoid making any errors – just like to see him show a bit more flair
13Jones-Buchanan7Looks like a man running on empty – his work rate is impressive though the quality is down on his high standards – nice try all the same
14Senior7Ideal impact player – certainly strengthened the middle of the park on his introduction – things worked well with Keith as part of the back row
15Diskin7Showed his versatility in the second half following Buderus’ introduction. Matt put a big defensive stint especially in the second half.
16Peacock9Inspirational, monumental effort and the one forward who consistently made ground – how he does it defies all logic – a one off
17Eastwood7Fairly quiet game – a couple of big hits but nothing ball in hand.
