In a Parallel Universe Iíve just been appointed as the Chairman of the RFL. Starting from next year Iíll be bringing new changes to the top tier of the game over here. Super League simply doesnít showcase the best that rugby league has to offer all season long. It has become a common sight to see a world class team put in a mediocre performance against a mediocre team and still coming out on top.
Next year will see an end to that thanks to a mini elite league that sits on top of the current super league that we have at the moment. This new league will contain the six best teams in the country starting with Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, St Helens, Warrington Wolves, Huddersfield Giants and Catalan Dragons. Theyíll play each other two times and the team that finishes bottom will be relegated back to super league to make way for super leagues league leader to mix in with the elite.
Whilst Super League will have promotion it still wonít have relegation. The licenses shall still apply come renewal time. The size of super league will depend on how many fit the criteria with the minimum 14 places guaranteed each renewal. At the end of the season the top two of this league will join the elite league for the super league play offs.
This in all should solve all the problems when it comes to the entertainment side of things in Rugby League. If the top clubs are playing against each other in their own league your bound to see better quality rugby league as long seasons tire players out. The Elite league is the entertainment side of the game whilst super league will be the livelihood of the game.
