Back at Leeds
By Matthew Horton

The Rhinos Under-21's entertained Huddersfield at Headingley last night, looking to bounce back from the defeat at Salford the week before. Jordan Tansey and Iain Gordon swapped places and Dave Tootill returned on the bench at the expense of Michael Haley, who plays in the Under 18's game at the Willows tonight.

A system failure means its rather shorter than normal.

We bring you all the action.

Giants Cut Down to Size

You could tell it was going to be one of those nights when the kick off from Murrell found the Southern touchline to give Leeds the ideal start, and two tackles later and with only 43 seconds on the watch Matt Gardner was in at the North-West corner. It was that start of the procession that would see the Rhinos cross the Giants line 10 times in the first half. Huddersfield were simply outclassed as Ashley Gibson, Gareth Morton and Jordan Tansey grabbed two tries each with Scott Murrell, Danny Williams and Dave Tootill also getting over the line. Ashley Gibson adding 9 conversions.

The second half was a case of how many points the Rhinos were going to score and after Jordan Tansey released Danny Williams, the first time the Rhinos had touched the ball in the second half, to go the length of the field, 100 points looked a serious possibility. Credit to Huddersfield, they hit back well and tested the Rhinos defence but the Blue and Amber wall was not for breaking. After a 15 minute break in scoring, Jordan Tansey danced through the Huddersfield defence to get his hat-trick. Matt Gardner added his second before Tansey again got over the line to take this tally to four for the night. Gibson added three conversions to take his points tally on the evening to 30.

Awesome, that's the only word to describe the performance tonight. 12 of the 14 tries tonight were scored by the back 5 of Tansey, Gardner, Gibson, Morton and Williams. Huddersfield were simply cut to shreds and although it was superb attacking play, the defence at times was brutal and helped lay the platform which gave the attace to perform. Led by Luke Burgess, the Rhinos were constantly winning the collision and forcing the Giants back. At half time it wasn't going to be an easy choice but The SouthStander.com Man of the Match was Jordan Tansey. Four tries on the night and a hand in many others, he took the vote on the back of some sparkling footwork and taking his chances when the opportunity arose.

The Senior Academy are back in action next Thursday night (19th May) at the Tetley's Stadium in Dewsbury as they travel to take on the Rams with a 7.30pm kick off. Please note this is a "home" fixture for the Rhinos.
