David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Bulls Away
Posted by southstander on May 25 2010 - 10:08:07

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are David’s thoughts about Sunday’s game against Bradford at Odsal, ;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Smith7Unconvincing and some way off his very best, terrible error for the first Bradford try, unlucky with his chip and re-gather.
2Donald7Surprise return, seemed to suffer no ill-effects from his injury. Ran the ball in well and kept his side solid – it will be interesting to see who gets picked when Webb returns?
3Delaney9One of his best games to date, set up the first try scored the next and put in a huge defensive effort in the first twenty minutes
4Senior7A bit of a nondescript game no obvious errors and no piece of brilliance, took his try when he had the chance
5Hall7For Hall see Senior, lovely pass to Senior for his try and unlucky to be called back for a non-existent forward pass.
6Sinfield8Two bits of sublime brilliance, the pass to Delanney for the first try and the pass to Delaney again for his try.
7McGuire9What can you say – scored three could have had five!! Bad miss in the lead up to Bulls second try – Danny is right at the top of his game - long may it continue.
8Leuluai7Showed his toughness by returning to the field in the second half when his grasp on reality wasn’t really there – not surprisingly a pretty quiet game
9Buderus9Playing as well as he has during his time at Leeds, his ability to read the game is a massive bonus some of his running from dummy half is very high quality. The volume of tackling he does should not be overlooked either
10Bailey9Yet another superb display, if there is a better prop in SL at the moment I haven’t seen him – on this form should be a certain starter for England
11Jones Buchanan7Not his finest hour his form seems to have flattened as the season has gone on, maybe a week off will do him no harm – not next week though!!
12Kirke7Wonderful chase to catch Sykes and stop a certain try, however he seems very limp in the tackling both going forward and defending did not return in the second half which saw a big reduction in the penalty count
13Ablett7Not quite the impact of the previous week – solid enough a important cog in the machine.
14Burgess0Left with what looked like an ankle problem, not on the field long enough to give a mark
15Diskin7Yet another player who cannot play the ball correctly, overshadowed by his more illustrious team mate – still a very good player to bring on when the defence is starting to tire.
16Pitts7For a natural off-loader he seems to have made a conscious decision to keep hold of the ball – glad he has got a game will help his confidence no end.
17Eastwood9My MOM – brilliant ball in hand and very unlucky with two very close calls for forward passes – you can see why they raved about him in Brisbane
