Superleague XV - Round 15
23rd May 2010

The Danny McGuire Show
With the game just three minutes old the Oldslum corner caught out Lee Smith as he criminally allowed a Sykes
kick to bounce in goal and Whitehead got his hand to the ball to touch down. Sykes slid the extras to the left
of the posts.
On thirteen the Rhinos were back in it, on the last tackle. A superb flat pass from Sinfield found Delaney who
passed out to Scott Donald to go twenty metres down the right wing before passing back inside to McGuire to
motor over in the corner. Sinfield missed the conversion but the scores were level at 4-4.
Bang on twenty-minutes poor Rhinos tackling let the Bulls in again when a crossfield kick form Sykes was
collected on the full by Platt who spun out of two tackles to score under the sticks. Sykes added the extras
and the home side were up at 4-10.
On twenty-five the Bulls should have been in again but Reardon dropped the ball five metres out with the line
begging. A lucky Rhinos escape.
On twenty-seven it was honours even again. Smith had been held up on the fifth tackle and from the last
Sinfield chipped the ball over the top for a diving McGuire to catch on the full and score. Sinfield converted
Danny sensational try and once again we were level at 10-10.
 Brilliant

On thirty minutes Sykes should have been in after McGuire spilled the ball ten from the Bulls line but Kirke
tracked Sykes and dragged him down on the Leeds twenty, picking up an injury in doing so.
A minute later and a Sykes kick bounced high over Donald and Nero collected the ball to score. Silverwood
refered the decision to the video referee who saw a push by Nero on Donlad and ruled out the try. Out of jail
twice in a minute.

After soaking up the Bulls pressure the Rhinos went downfield and a kcik to the corner from McGuire was
collected by Hall, flung outside to Senior, who burrowed over in the corner. The partisan home support didn't
like it, but despite Sinfield missing the coversion we were 14-10 up. From looking like we would be four down,
now we were four up.
Right on the hooter Pitts conceeded a penalty after he dived on the ball after not being square and Sykes
slotted over the extras. We were up 14-12 at half-time, and deserved it for our defensive effort.
With the second half two minutes old the Rhinos benefitted from a Sheriffe knock-on when the ball was moved
wide right and Delaney went over from ten metres with a couple of tacklers attached. Sinfield added the extras
and there was daylight at 20-12.
On fifty, Sheriffe failed to take in a high pass with the line begging, it almost looked like the Bulls were
playing themselves...and losing.
On fifty-three Sinfield kicked to Sheriffes corner on the last, McGuire collected a Hall palm back and as he
was tackled on the line he managed to stretch out one handed and touch-down for his would-be hat-trick try.
Silverwood referred it upstairs and the enigmatic Alibert for some reason ruled out a perfectly good try. Not
for the first time this season.

 Gamebreaker
|
On fifty-six fast hands from Leeds saw Hall in at the corner, once again Silverwood ruled out the try, without
explanation. Was the tide turning away from Leeds, along with Silverwood?
On the hour Danny finally got the hat-trick. He took the ball on half-way from a sensational falling offload
from Eastwood. Danny out-footed Halley to go under the sticks. Sinfield goaled for 26-12 and after two wrongly
disallowed tries, we had finally opened up a decent margin of fourteen points.
With ten minutes left on the clock Lynch went close but lost the ball when grounding it six inches short.
Two minutes from the end and Lee Smith kicked a forty-twenty. With a minute left on the fourth tackle the ball
was moved right and Smith chipped over but lost the ball in the act of scoring. The clock ran down and the
Rhinos secured a great win, keeping the Bulls scoreless in the second half.
In the end this was a comfortable win despite the best efforts of Alibert and Silverwood to come up with
several works of fiction to try and keep the Bulls in the game.
Danny McGuire was sensational today and both Diskin and Eastwood made a massive difference when they came on.
Once again we appeared to lose a couple of players with Kirke and Burgess both picking up knocks. The Rhinos
recouperation room will be busy again this week ahead of saturdays massive clash against the Warriors in the
Challenge Cup.
