David Bywaters Player Appraisals - Panthers in the Cup
Posted by southstander on May 09 2010 - 07:58:28

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are David’s thoughts about Friday’s game against Blackpool at Headingley;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Smith0Left the field early doors with what looked like a serious ankle injury – hopefully it isn’t as bad as it looked
2Coady7Unconvincing first half but a much better second half which included a well taken hat trick. Did not look out of place against this level of opposition not sure I would be playing him against a SL side just yet
3Delaney8Always looked dangerous with the ball and a pretty solid tackling stint throughout. Not sure what was on his mind at the end of the first half when Blackpool kicked the ball through!!!
4Senior8Far too much experience for a youngish Blackpool side – a couple of glimpses of his ability to pass when at full speed – good solid game
5Hall8Deceptively quick when he puts the hammer down his running style is difficult to check – took he tries well and was very unlucky with the one that was chalked off.
6Sinfield7His first four kicks went dead in goal without a figure being laid on them – typical of his night – one piece of magic though – a kick to the wing for one of Coady’s tries
7Webb9Not often you will score five tries and not win the MOM – Brent looked very uneasy under the high ball all night – all in all a top class display
8Burgess8Really good on the night – took the ball in with venom every carry – he seems to have improved his ball control significantly in the last few weeks.
9Buderus9My MOM – he was too quick mentally for many of his team mates some deft flicks and passes – in a word class.
10Ambler8Like Burgess very aggressive with the ball especially his spell in the second half – one small mistake apart a very encouraging display
11Pitts6Failed to impose himself on the game – no offloads no line breaks in fact nothing to write home about at all
12Kirke8A continuation of the good form he has shown over the past few weeks – just wish he was a bit more aggressive in the collision.
13Clarkson7Started a little nervously but settled down and put in a big tackling stint when needed – encouraging once again
14Kylie8Determined to make an impression – which he certainly did with a few massive hits – would be surprised if he is not banned for a couple of weeks for an elbow in a Blackpool player’s face
15Peacock8Like Senior a bit too much experience for these part time players – got a good balance of getting a good work out without embarrassing the opposition
16Lauiti'iti7Limited game time but it is a treat to see a player who attacks the line in the way Ali does – his array of skills will be missed if he does move on
17Eastwood8Good to see Greg back and looking like he has lost a few pounds – the footwork for his try was superb for a forward
