David Bywaters Player Appraisals - Saints Away
Posted by southstander on April 27 2010 - 07:35:31

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Read more here....

Here are David’s thoughts about Saturday’s game against St Helens at the Knowsley Road, ;

1Smith7Competent – in the right place for his try and saved a certain try when he got under Cunningham. Unfortunate that his team mates were unable to defend one on ones close to the line. Still looks some way off being fully fit
2Hall5Just not his night – two poor attempts at collecting the ball proved costly in the context of the game – but for a JJB brain explosion he would have chalked up another score.
3Delaney8My MOM really bent his back in defense and looked the most potent attacker in the Leeds side – one of the few who could finish the game knowing he had performed something like he can
4Senior5Keith’s not unexpected inconsistent form reared its head once again – responsible for two tries as he failed to defend his line and his offload to a Saints player was simply schoolboy stuff
5Bush5Looked like a cat in the headlights, completely overawed sadly. His run and subsequent tackle into touch was a pivotal moment in the game – defending outside Senior can’t be easy and he is only in his third game in the first team
6McGuire6Wonderful pass for Hall’s no try, bad error early in the second half knocking on over the line, unlucky when tackled without the ball and difficult to function as a half back when you have no ball.
7Burrow6As with McGuire half backs cannot function without the ball. Pretty ineffective game its only high spot being the try at the end.
8Kylie7His effort when on the field was very good, one big hit on Fozzard and he hit the line with power when he had the ball. Sadly his stamina effects his ability to contribute especially in defense – as good as any prop on the day
9Diskin6Solid if unspectacular first spell but a disastrous second - his two dropped balls killed any momentum Leeds had built up – a good player when in his comfort zone outside of that his instincts let him down.
10Bailey5Solid enough first spell but never reappeared – possible back problem once again.
11Jones-Buchanan4Another poor performance, why does he feel the need to infringe so often? McClennan left him on far too long in the first half. His run for Hall disallowed try was simply stupid – needs a rest to recharge physically, mentally and have a shave.
12Kirke8The best forward on display – super pass for the opening try and a very solid tackling stint – hopefully this is a sign of things to come going forward
13Sinfield5As the captain he failed completely to control his side’s discipline – this in turn effected his game – the pass straight to Saints player 10 metres from their line was poor to say the least – his defense was nothing to write home about either not his finest hour
14Ambler4Like Bush looked out of his depth for the one stint he did – like Bush he is young and the experience with do him no harm
15Peacock6How fit was he – his slowness at the playing the ball when tackled didn’t help the momentum of the attack – not quite the metre-maker he was and more easily exposed in the line
16Buderus7I would like to see him get 80 minutes against Wakefield – definitely added speed at the ruck and some motion from the PTB. Badly exposed at marker for the try under the sticks
17Burgess6Needs to concentrate on how he can contribute more to the team than how the ref is performing – pretty ineffectual IMO
