David Bywaters Player Appraisals - Hull in the Cup
Posted by southstander on April 19 2010 - 15:13:01

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are David’s thoughts about Saturday’s game against Hull at the KC, ;

1Webb8Two brilliant fast passes to Hall for two of Hall’s trys. Right place at the right time for his two trys – to hold his run from the Burrow kick was brilliant. Still looks a bit uncertain in defence – the first Hull try was an example of this. On the whole a superb performance.
2Smith7Much improved defence this week, very unlucky not to score early in the first half. He still looks a little chunky and his speed isn’t quite there yet – good solid contribution
3Delaney8Huge tackling stint in the first twenty minutes – lovely break and offload for Smith’s disallowed try. Excellent work after the disappointing effort the previous week
4Senior7Suprisingly no assists – is that a first when the winger outside you get four trys. Keith kept his cool and showed some very good decision making today – not bad for an old fella
5Hall9Four trys suggests he had a good game – what was also very pleasing was his defence – took some very good options when faced with two on ones – not often you score four trys and don’t get MOM
6McGuire7Overshadowed by Burrow but played his part in keeping the ball moving, he made three really nice half breaks and the pass to Delanney in the lead up to Smith’s no try was sublime.
7Burrow10I counted five assists – the kick for Webb’s second try was something else – he answered his critics big style with a MOM performance for me. Rob word of advice if you are going to pick a fight at least make sure you can reach them!!
8Kylie8Played a huge part in setting the platform for the win in the first twenty. One hit on O’Meeley finished the Aussie’s contribution. An unsung hero on the day
9Buderus10Had a point to prove and prove it he certainly did. His best performance in a Rhino’s shirt since his arrival. Completely bossed the ruck and gave glimpses of what a brilliant player he once was.
10Bailey8Another unsung hero of the day – his defensive effort alongside Kylie created the springboard from which Leeds kicked on later in the game.
11Ablett9Brilliant – gives another dimension to the Leeds attack – his power when running with ball cannot be under estimated. Carl also has a neat body swerve for a forward – his contribution in the second twenty of the first half changed the game.
12Jones-Buchanan7Solid but unspectacular performance – looks like a player that has been running on empty and needs time to recharge his batteries.
13Sinfield8Ran his team from the front, kicked the goals from everywhere and like McGuire kept the ball in motion to enable Burrow to weave his magic.
14Kirke9Credit where credit is due – superb performance in all facets of the game. Strong in defense and solid in attack – was never going to be denied when he got a sniff of the line.
15Peacock8Not bad for a half fit old bloke – steadied the ship just when it was needed – really hammered the Hull line and completed his share of the tackling duties
16Diskin8Buderus’ brilliance should not hide the part Matt played in the first twenty minutes – tackled himself to exhaustion – nice cameo at the end of the game.
17Burgess8Did nothing wrong in the game but had only limited impact compared to some of team mates – solid and workmanlike.
