David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Hull Home
Posted by southstander on April 13 2010 - 07:35:59

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Read more here....

Here are Davidís thoughts about Sundayís game against Hull at Headingley;

1Webb8Continued his very consistent form, apart from one high ball he didnít get near, a very good performance - also looked very lively when he was switched to half back
2Smith5All over the place in defence - not helped by a collective brain explosion on that side - hardly a correct decision was made when Hull attacked the right side of Leeds defence.
3Delaney6Yeaman had his number all game - in his defense looked to be struggling early on with what looked like a rib issue. Two really nice breaks that should have led to points but for a couple of poor decisions
4Senior8Two tries capped a very good display - there are few more impressive athletes than Keith in full flight - solid defence too - close to MOM
5Hall7An improvement on recent games - more desire ball in hand and one superb catch at full stretch over his head
6McGuire6Struggled to deal with Yeaman all afternoon - his defensive frailties were exposed on the day with some poor options. In the right place to score his try and should have had another if Delaney had taken the right option
7Burrow6Nice interplay for Seniorís second try but his interception pass for Whitingís try was typical of a player struggling to find his best form. Some way to go to recover his best form.
8Kylie6Atrocious first stint, one set he went for three tackles and missed the lot. His involvement in the attack was virtually non-existent. His second stint was an improvement - difficult to be worse than his first.
9Buderus6Oh dear a platform to display his skills that went begging. No doubt he is trying his heart out but it just isnít happening for him - a pale shadow of a once great player
10Bailey7Does what he does - defends solidly and takes the ball in securely - run of the mill Bailey afternoon
11Lauitiíiti9My MOM on the back of a very solid tackling stint - always looked dangerous with the ball and his try taking three men with him showed his natural strength and power
12Jones-Buchanan7Ball retention much improved and a well deserved try - once again worked himself to a standstill - all the more admirable
13Sinfield8Excellent place kicking and a dream of a pass for JJBís try - letís hope he has his kicking boots on next week. Not sure Burgess will thank him for the hospital pass though
14Kirke7By far his best performance of the season really put himself about in defence - he must have got the message that somebody is going to miss out next week and on this performance it should not be him
15Ablett7No wonder Saints and Warrington were after Carl, he oozes quality - coming back into the side just at the right time - one break in the second half showed his class - hopefully he will get involved in the play making in the future
16Diskin8Changed the dynamic of the game - tempo went up and the whole side responded to his inclusion - superb feel for the game unlike Buderus who seemed to go down a blind alley all the time - Matt found the space and gaps
17Burgess8Put some big hits in today - a couple were pretty crucial in the context of the game - as good as any prop on the field going forward, just the one handling error which given the times he took the ball in is pretty good
