David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Bulls Home
Posted by southstander on April 03 2010 - 20:57:41

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are David’s thoughts about Thursday’s game against Headingley at the DW, ;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb7Pretty solid on the night – looked very secure under the high ball and fit well into the line in attack – his pass started the first try
2Smith8Welcome back Lee hasn’t lost the knack of touching the ball down when he gets the chance – a very welcome addition to the squad
3Delaney6Scored one let one in that apart didn’t really contribute as much as I had hoped he would – still doesn’t look 100%
4Senior6Oh dear, the mind is willing but the body is not sad to see this shadow of a once great player – at fault for both the second and third tries and easily contained by the Bradford defenders.
5Hall6Looked defensively vulnerable all night – can’t be easy playing outside a fading star but Ryan isn’t helping himself with some poor decision making
6McGuire7Created two tries but let one in and bombed a really good attacking position when he had the ball stripped. A mixed bag on the night but never stopped trying to create and put in his usual defensive stint
7Burrow6Was he on the field – it must just be me but I am struggling to think of a single play where Rob’s input made a difference – the only thing I can remember was a bullet pass to Kirke’s head. The coaches need to find a way of diversifying Rob’s skills because at the moment the opposition can easily cope with his one trick
8Leuluai6I am struggling to fathom the added value Kylie is bringing – he seldom breaks the line in fact he seldom makes 5 metres – I would much rather the youngsters get a go than waste an overseas spot like this
9Diskin7Looked much better as a running back row forward who could pass from the dummy half than he did as an out and out 9. His passing from the floor is cumbersome and wayward – he looked much better once the intensity of the game increased
10Bailey8Once again the best defender on the field – take time to watch Ryan when Leeds are defending – his attention, concentration and ability to select the correct tackle to involve himself in is superb.
11Kirke7Much better tonight, greater involvement – more yards made and more tackles completed
12Jones-Buchanan8Massive effort – he never stopped running the whole time he was on the pitch – his enthusiasm and will to win is an example to some of his more illustrious team mates
13Sinfield8A bit rusty but he scored a vital and gave a superb pass for Delaney’s walk in. A couple of poor decisions in attack; the pass for the intercept and the kick to Smith on the third that apart pretty good
14Lauitiiti7His best game of the year – really took the line on and with faster pitches he should start to do some damage
15Buderus7A conundrum – he is a better and more accurate passer than Diskin but seems to be struggling to make an impact – is it worth having two hookers in the team – reasonable game and a tad unlucky to get sin-binned
16Ambler8My MOM – showed some of his more experienced team mates how to run at the line – even after Scruton took his head off and Diskin chastised him he still kept going – really good home debut
17Burgess7Much better defence tonight and ran ball in hand as usual - hopefully a sign of things to come
