David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Wigan Away
Posted by southstander on March 27 2010 - 10:32:24

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are David’s thoughts about Friday’s game against Wigan at the DW, ;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb8One of the senior players who really stood up to be counted – very solid performance unlucky not to score late on
2Bush7Showed some very neat footwork when had the ball, unfortunately his inexperience and lack of support from Burrow and Senior was exposed as Wigan scored tries outside him
3Clarkson7Did very little wrong in the game – defended with purpose when called to do so – does not look out of place at this level
4Senior6Not a captain’s knock – maybe this is one season too far for Keith – he offered very little going forward and left Bush exposed in defence
5Hall6Scored his try, that apart contributed very little his impact was significantly less than that of Bush
6McGuire7Danny should get some real credit he fronts up every week even though it is obvious he is far from 100% - at fault for the first try but his work rate was really good, unfortunately more perspiration than inspiration.
7Burrow7Returning to better form, superb 40/20 and much improved ball in hand – sadly his sliding defence with Bush didn’t work on the night
8Burgess7Going forward the best in the pack, but he needs to improve his defence around the PTB, also he needs to stop giving away penalties
9Diskin6Another senior player who failed to deliver on the night – I cannot believe McShane is not getting a go when the standard offered from the hookers is so poor
10Bailey9My MOM – immense on the night – lead from the front – totally dominated Fielden.
11Kirke5Struggling with a shoulder injury and didn’t get much game time but you could hardly notice whether he was on or off the field
12Pitts8Really good game – massive defensive effort, hopefully he will be a permanent fixture in the team from now on.
13Jones-Buchanan5Another senior player who failed to deliver on the night – simply shambolic. If the team were picked on form JJB would not get in on this.
14Lauiti’iti6Another senior player with an innocuous game – Ali seems to be going through the motions at the minute
15Buderus7Better than Diskin, not saying much, I wonder if time has finally caught up with him, worked hard in defence but had a very limited impact going forward
16Ambler8Great debut – looked well at ease against a strong Wigan side which should give him a big confidence boost, hopefully he will get a game against Bradford
17Amor5Sadly SL looks a level to far – once again looked well out of his comfort zone
