David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Reds Home
Posted by southstander on February 20 2010 - 15:12:20

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are David’s thoughts about Fridays game against Salford at Headingley;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb7One of the better players on the night – his game was still punctuated with some serious errors – not going for the kick that resulted in the 40/20, giving a penalty away on the first, not playing the ball correctly again on the first tackle – not what you expect from a senior player in a tight game
2Donald0Left the field with what looked like a serious shoulder injury – not on the field long enough to score
3Watkins7For a left centre he is making a good attempt on his wrong side – took one crucial high ball close to his own line late in the game. Showed his inexperience in the mess up with McGuire under the bomb that led to the second Salford try. Encouraging non the less.
4Senior8His best game of the season so far – struggling to make an impact on the pudding of pitch at HQ. Took his tries well - hopefully a sign of things to come
5Hall9My MOM - the pick of the threequarters, massive effort when taking the ball up close to the line and a couple of nice takes for high balls – especially the tip back for Senior’s second try
6McGuire7Head and shoulders above the other two half backs – looks hungry and very dynamic – at fault for the try in a mix up with Watkins – that apart solid.
7Burrow5Rob’s poor form continues - he is struggling to hit a team mate with a pass – I lost count of the number of passes that went behind the player or into touch. As the saying goes things can only get better.
8Leulieu9His first stint was as good as any Kylie has put in since his time at Leeds – he has really upped the aggression and his defence has shown a significant improvement this year
9Diskin7Started the game and the team benefited for that – not outstanding but solid – once again he made a good break but failed to take the right option in the tackle – that could have been expensive in a game where chances were few and far between
10Peacock8Never stopped trying – a massive effort but like Senior his legs struggled to deliver the momentum the effort deserved. McClennan is using him more sparingly – hopefully the benefits will come later in the year
11Jones Buchanan9Played the whole 80 minutes I think, covered in the centres and tackled himself to a standstill, lovely offload for Senior’s first try – close to MOM
12Kirke6It must be me but I am not seeing what he brings to the party. His defence is pretty average and his go forward is disappointing for such a big lad. Had to be in the right place to get the ball for his try.
13Sinfield5His poor form combined with Burrow’s is really killing the side – his passes are so easy to telegraph that I am amazed that more of his team mates are not in hospital – the quality and accuracy of his passing was abysmal last night
14Lauitiiti7Excellent defensive effort last night – conditions did not suit his free flowing offloading style – still a very solid contribution
15Buderus5Not his finest hour – his distribution was terrible – he hardly threw a decent pass all night – cold hands!!
16Eastwood9Superb – put a hit on Broughton that made his eyes water – a constant hand full ball in hand and a massive effort in defence – potential MOS – could be one of the best overseas signings made in the SL era
17Bailey7Understated performance – did the hardwork in a quiet and determined manner – becoming a very key player in this set up
