Tad Rhinos Superleague XV Preview - Round 3

Last week we managed four out of seven games correct on our average prediction. Leeds, Catalans and Salford Reds let us down as we threw another 1 in the bookies direction.

Better luck this week?

Here are my thoughts on Round 3 of Super League XV;

This season is so hard to predict.

This game is one of them. The Bulls were average at the Giants and poor at home to Saints who, to be fair, were red hot. So where do the Bulls go. They are desperate to get a win from somewhere and a tough Cas side await them. The Tigers were good at Leeds and played pretty well in losing to the Wolves last week. With both sides having evenly matched packs, good halves but average 3/4 line this is a real tough one to predict. I have changed my mind three times while writing this but I'm going for cas, just!!!!!, to ensure another torrid night for McBanana.

In an earlier preview I tipped McRae for the first coach to be sacked and his sides inept display last week didn't help his cause. Leeds probably couldn't pick a better team to get back on track against than the Reds. The pitch won't help but I can only see Leeds picking up the two points. Although I probably said that last Easter too.

The Dragons were poor last week but are a differant animal at home. They also have a decent record against the Saints in France. Under Potter Saints have been hit and miss, as shown in their two games so far this season. If the Dragons can get stuck in, get the crowd behind them and rediscover last seasons late form, they could really hammer Saints. The win, and the manner of it, last week will really have given Saints a confidence boost and I think they will have too much for the Catalans.

I really can't wait for this one. Wigan looked good last week. Fit, aggresive and totally dominating a good Rovers side. They also looked solid in defence and adventurous with ball in hand. The wolves thrashed an understrength 'Quins side and ground out a great win at a good Cas outfit last week. With Morley and Carvell escaping a ban, Carvell on appeal, I'm going for the Wolves to win it. Either way don't miss this one!

The Crusaders had a great win last week and look to have got a competitive squad together. I don't expect to see them in the play offs but I think they will compete and shock a few teams this year. I was more impressed with Hull against the Giants than I was against the Saints. Playing against a tough side they ground out a really good win. It was a tough, uncompromising game and one they would have lost last season. You would have to fancy them to win this one too.

The Giants return to East Yorkshire for the second successive weekend looking to do better than last week at the K.C.. These are two teams in a similar mould. Good in defence, organised and hard working. Like the Bulls-Tigers game this is a really tough one to call. I really, really, can't decide so I'm going for home advantage to just swing this one.
