David Bywaters Player Appraisal - 'Cats Away
Posted by southstander on February 16 2010 - 10:39:01

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are David’s thoughts about Sunday’s game at the Hearwell Dome, Wakefield ;

1Webb8Significant improvement on the previous week. Returned the ball really well and defended the kick through without error. His only mistake was playing the ball to no one allowing Brough to scoop the ball
2Donald7Two good tries especially his second, sadly his vulnerability under the bomb was exposed once again as Millard beat him to the ball. What might have been had he taken Sinfield’s kick in.
3Watkins6Competent without taking the game by storm – would like to see him run straight at the opponent without the hop just before impact
4Senior7Better than last week, or should I say less mistakes, at fault with JJB for the Jefferies try – one or two nice breaks unlucky to get ankle tapped close to end of the game when through on the line
5Hall8His defence when the Rhinos were down to 12 men was immense – he saved two tries with instinctive tackles coming out of the line
6McGuire7Scored one, made one, gave one away – his pass to Brough for the interception was the real turning point of the game. The best of the three playmakers
7Burrow5Looks like a man short on confidence, Rob is trying real hard but nothing is working – his connection with Sinfield is way off. The difference in the game was the performance of the two scrum halves
8Leulieu8Kylie’s hit on Tronc was worth the admission money – Tronc really felt that. As good as any prop on the field top quality performance
9Buderus6Just hasn’t fired yet this season – maybe a switch with Diskin starting and Danny impacting might help his game
10Peacock7His monumental effort from last week impacted on this week – unusually quiet in a game that really needed his usual lead from the front mentality
11Jones Buchanan6Sadly a one man penalty machine on the day add that to his miss alongside Senior for Jefferies’ try and this was an afternoon to forget for Jamie
12Eastwood9My MOM – fantastic second half – the Wakefield defenders really struggled to cope with his forceful runs – getting better with every game
13Sinfield6Lost the plot with Childs which eventually led to him being sin-binned in the second half – his constant repartee with the ref was disruptive and resulted in a very one sided penalty count
14Lauiti'iti6 Good display on the day always looked an attacking threat – some good signs for the forthcoming weeks.
15Kirke5Was he on the field? His only effort of note was to drop the ball on the first tackle just as the Rhinos had got a bit of a head of steam towards the end of the first half – not his finest hour
16Diskin7Once again the better of the two hookers but like his illustrious partner failed to take the game to the Wildcats – defensively not his best game either
17Bailey9Continued his good work from the previous weeks – really ran the ball in and wasn’t afraid to get stuck in when the Wildcats had the ball – ran eastwood close for MOM
