Tad Rhinos Superleague XIV Preview - Round 23

Just the maestro himself tipped the Wigan win over the Rhinos last week, showing that a fortnight in the sun hasn't turned his prediction skills rusty.

This week the Rhinos welcome back Tony Smith to Headingley as his Warrington Wolves seek to pile on the midery to the Champions.

Here are my thoughts on this weekend's action in Super League XIV, Round 23;

FC v. GIANTS

Hull were desperatley unlucky against Rovers last week, having a perfectly good try disallowed when they were on top. The effort Hull put in may really affect them against the Giants who have a massive pack and quick backs. The Hull defence is poor, Katie Price is more likely to turn down cuddles with stranger than Hull have of keeping a team tryless.

The Giants seem to have gathered some momentum after a few poor results and i can see them getting another 2 points as they try for a top 2 finish.

REDS v. WILDCATS

Salford, according to Shaun McRae, were a disgrace last week. The Wildcats, according to John Kear, were clueless in there loss to Cas. Expect an average game with the Wildcats having to much individual class for the Reds.

RHINOS v. WOLVES

The big question here is, who will wear the magic hat after the game, Smith or Bluey?

Leeds, in my opinion, had their best half of the season at Wigan last week. Aggressive, powerful and should have had the game sewn up at half time. Why they fell to bits is anyones guess. Perversley I think the absence of Buderus could help Leeds. They will go back to one hooker, albiet having a brief rest, and players will not have to adjust playing off a differant dummy half. That being said there is no doubt Buderus is a big loss. Leeds biggest problem is ball retention and the inability to build pressure. The desire to score off every set is costing them dear, and the experienced players really need to sort this out.

The Wolves have been hit and miss under Smith but there is no doubt he will have them wound up for this one. Some call Smith a messiah, to others he is just a naughty boy (thanks to monty python for that one!), whatever the Wolves have a big pack and good halves. They lack size and class in the backs and if the Leeds pack can match Warringtons' then I think this could be the difference. This is a game Leeds dare not lose and I don't think they will.

SAINTS v. WARRIORS

The third biggest derby in Superleague, funny how this game is always televised, should be a cracker. Saints are depleted and rumour has it Cunningham will occupy the front row. Sorry, he needs three jerseys to cover his ample frame. Wigan are in a great run although I am yet to be convinced they are genuine title challengers. I think last week was built up and hyped by the Warriors so much they were never going to lose. That game took so much out of them I can see Saints cutting loose.

DRAGONS v. CRUSADERS

The Welsh boys travel to the South of France and look to avoid a whipping. They won't.

BULLS v. QUINS

This is so difficult to predict. Quins are injury hit although they could have a few players back for this one. The Bulls, a couple of games apart, have been terrible this season and there is no doubt the play-offs are gone for them. I expect a turn over of players, and a new coach, in the close season and there is little left to play for this year. I can see the Bulls winning this one though.

TIGERS v. KR

This could well be a cracker. Rovers won the Humberside derby last weekend and Cas won the small town in Leeds derby. Both sides will be on a high and the rumour is the game has been switched to wembley to accomodate the vast numbers of travelling fans. a recent survey in Cas showed 94% of locals thought 'Deliverance' was a documentary about the town.
