Rhinoms Superleage XIV Preview - Round 20

Hi all. With Tad away sunning himself I've been asked to stand in and preview this weeks matches.

We have now hit round twenty and it doesn't seem that long ago that we were waiting for Eastwood to arrive in Florida and looking forward to facing Manly in the WCC. How the season has flown by.

Read more here....

Here are my thoughts on this weekend's action in Super League XIV, Round 20;

The Pies are hitting form at the right time of the season and the adversity surrounding Nobby's future and Hock's stupidity seems to have galvanized them. As for the Dragons they recovered from been 10-0 down early on against Cas and picked up another impressive win against the mis-firing Robins but which team will show up at the pie-dome? I have to go with Wigan at the moment they just have the edge in my opinion, especially at home but the Dragons can make it a tough night if they turn upto play.

I tip pies by 10.

The basement battle takes place in South Wales with both teams pulling off some great wins the Celts beating the Bulls and Pies and the Reds beating us and Saints. Both teams are missing players and have very thin squads and how will the Celts react to all the off-field financial speculation? I think after beating Saints last week the Reds will have too much for the boys from the valleys and win with room to spare.

I tip Reds by 16.

This match could really be a battle royal, Quins are desperate for a win after some recent hidings and the Giants are looking to re-gain momentum for the play-offs and their upcoming cup date with Saints. We've seen that both teams can be very good and also very ordinary will the workmanlike pack of the Quins be able to contain this massive Giants pack, and will Chad Randall be able to carry his team to a morale boosting victory? All questions that will be answered in the negative for Quins I fear they've lost direction as well as Dorn and Purdham and I'd expect Howell to be missing after his UFC effort on Tompkins at the weekend. I tip a Giants win and leaving Brian Mac feeling like he had V.I.P passes for the Jacko concert!

Giants to win by 10.

Both these teams have been tipped as challengers this year and whilst the Robins up until recently have been able to maintain their top 3 or 4 status with fine form and spirited efforts the Bulls, other than notable wins against us and the Saints, have been abysmal unless you are McBanana off course, then it's everyone else's fault except his and his mediocre team. This is a real chance for the Robins to regain confidence and form and extinguish any flicker of hope our neighbours have of the play-offs. Still wouldn't it be just like the Bulls to pull off a great performance and win? Not this week though.

I tip Robins by 10.

Well I'm reminded that Wakey have never beaten us at B.V in the Superleague era!!!!!!!!

Lets not forget that Salford had never beaten us in SL either until easter Monday. Wakey have been hit and miss of late and they were missing Drew for the Giants match and Rooney has left. We all know what we are capable of but we will have to perform for the full 80 against Wakey if ever there is a coach that can get his team up for a "Big effort" it's John Kear and I'm sure he'll have them ready when the champions roll into town. With Buderus pulling the strings and Sinfield, and "uncle" Keith, on fire I think we'll have too much for Wakey although we'll have to defend better than we did in the 2nd half at Codsville.

I tip Rhinos by 12.

Well what can I say about Wire against Saints? They always seem so near yet so far against Saints but I honestly think they won't get a better chance of beating them. The saints are missing talismen Long and Cunningham whilst Wire are hitting form now Tony Smiths methods are rubbing off. The only downside for Wire is that Saints have just come back off a loss, and if they have Pryce and Gidley back I think they'll get their usual last gasp win with Wire been close but no cigar.

I tip Saints by 7.

Cas are coming off the back of a great high scoring win away at Bradford and Hull just keep losing so you'd think that this was a home banker! Well if you look closer then maybe not, Cas are terrible at home and Hull despite conceding 43 points (that the ref and linesman scored!) put together some decent attacking rugby in the 2nd half against the champs. This really is a toss of the coin but I think Cas may just have too much for Captain Birdseye and his Sponge Bob cast!

I tip Cas by 8.
