Tad Rhinos Previews - Challenge Cup Highlights

It's Challenge Cup weekend and all the fun and thrills of the random draw. A random draw which sees the Rhinos pitted against the Saints as Superleagues top two sides go head-to-head for the honour of progression.

Most commentators are looking at this tie and suggesting that this is really the final with the winner on sunday being the nailed on favourites to lift the famour old trophy.

This week Tad picks the four most mouth-watering ties and makes his predictions.

Here are my thoughts on this weekend's action in Super League XIV, Round 7;

DRAGONS v. BULLS

The pair meet for the second time in three weeks with the Bulls, who are still unbeaten in France, hoping to clinch a French double this week. The Bulls should have been home and dry at Cas but all their old failings came back as Classy Cas, roared on by a partisan crowd, scored three late tries to pip the Bulls at the post.

The Bulls are a poor, confidence lacking outfit while I thought the Dragons looked very good in parts at Leeds, especially the first 20 minutes. A difficult one to pick but I fancy the Dragons to add to MacBananaís woes. Dragons by 10.

'FAX v. VIKINGS

Two former cup kings go head to head this weekend, just a fortnight after an enthralling clash in the league. Halifax have a big, robust pack with the class of Barker, Black and Penkywicz behind them. Widnes have some outstanding individuals but have yet to gel as a team, only just edgeing out Sheffield this weekend. A great clash in prospect and I fancy Halifax to go through, and hopefully get a big payday next round. They deserve it.

'QUINS v. GIANTS

Another cracker in prospect at The Stoop. The 'Quins ground out a result against Hull FC last weekend with a dogged no frills display, something they havenít been able to do in the past. Dorn and Randall orchestrated things and the small pack competed superbly with hulls big boys.

The Ggiants had yet another great win at Wigan, with Nobby spitting the dummy out after his cynical side were outplayed at there own game. Nathan Brown has the giants organised and they really attack and defend as a team. A tough one to call but I fancy the Giants to nick it by 6.

RHINOS v. SAINTS

What a game in prospect on Sunday. A near full house should welcome the best two teams by a mile and a big TV audience should be enthralled. The league meeting had everything: big hits, great skill, and despite what the fools on SKY say, the mutual respect between the teams at the end was evident. Saints have been a bit hit-and-miss this season and at the time of writing there are doubts over Long, Wellans, Cunningham and Pryce. Puletua is a great signing but saints really need there big players available for this one.

Leeds should be almost at full strength. Buderus could well be back and, if fit, he will be a big plus for Leeds. That nasty Ryan Bailey should be back to annoy 'ginger spice' while Brent Webb will be the better for a few games. Assuming that both teams are at full strength this is such a tough one to call. There are battles all over the pitch to look forward to, none more than in the front row and in the halves. An intriguing game, one I cannot wait for, and Iím going for Saints to win it at the death by 4.
