Tad Rhinos Superleague XIV Previews - Round 5

Last week I got one over on my fellow pundits by predicting the correct outcome in six out of seven games. Oldham Rhino tipped five right and Mr SouthStander.com only managed a paltry four.

We're at it again as we look ahead to round five including the monster tie of the round as the Rhinos take on the Warriors at Headingley Carnegie.

Read more here....

Here are my thoughts on this weekend's action in Super League XIV, Round 5;

SAINTS v. SALFORD

Saints have been poor the last two weeks and scraped a win in South Wales last week. Salford have been appalling recently. Humiliated at home by the 'Quins last week and home fans throwing object at Shaun McRae does not inspire confidence. Saints need to find some form and I can see them getting the result here.

TIGERS v. GIANTS

A cracker in prospect Darn Lane. Cas are playing really well at the moment while the Giants are a bit hit and miss. The Giants are without Raleigh and Aspinwall for this one while the Tiggers should be at full strength. Both sides will be confident of winning this one and Iím going for home advantage to swing it but not by much.

'QUINS v. WOLVES

Both sides had reasons to be happy last week. 'Quins demolished Salford, which isnít hard at the moment, and wire were unlucky not to beat Leeds in a much improved display. Tony Smith will have had a week to get to grips with his players and I expect them to put in a good display at the stoop. The 'Quins have been impressive though this season and I see them just nicking this one.

BULLS v. FC

Dear Oh Dear. What's happened to the peoples team?

Simple really. Class players like Pryce, Peacock, Hape, Withers et al have been replaced with mediocrity. Deacon is years past his best, he was appalling on Saturday. Morrison and the Beaver, (I love that name!) have carried the team and unless quality players are signed there can be surely no improvement. Hull play simple football. A no frills pack, a good hooker in Berrigan and good halves in Horne and Thorman mean the backs get quality ball. Add a good kicking game and you get a decent side. The Bulls misery to carry on as Hull win at the tip.

KR v. CRUSADERS

The Crusaders put in a great shift against the mighty Ďsí last week and that effort could tell this week I think. HKR are a solid side, like there near neighbours. A tough as teak pack gives Dobson the space and I rate him as the best kicker in SL bar none.

WILDCATS v. DRAGONS

Wakey have been great so far while the dragons have been inconsistent. Drew has been vital for the Wildcats but may miss this and I have a funny feeling the Dragons will be fired up for this one. Wildcats need players back desperately and I going for a shock and the Dragons to win by 10.

RHINOS v. WARRIORS

The first really massive game of the season sees the Champions entertain Wigan at Headingly Carnegie. Wigan started very poorly and were lucky to be gifted a win at the 'Quins when really they should have been buried. They were very impressive last week against the Bulls although Bradford were awful, simply dreadful. This week will give a true pointer as to where Wigan stand at the moment.

Leeds have not been impressive, defence apart, all season. What can not be doubted is the spirit or will to win that this team possess. The Champions, in my opinion, have started slowly and are slowly building up week after week. Senior, Kirke and Diskin should be back for this one although we wait to hear how JPís shoulder is. I can see the leeds pack bossing this one although Feka will make 2 massive bursts, one in each half, and Stevo and the Wigan fans will be drooling over the best prop in the game(for 5 minutes a game).

I think this is the one Leeds have been aiming at since the start of the season and Iím tipping the boys to get the points.

Leeds by 10.
