Tads' Superleague XIV Preview - Part I

Season Preview

By TadRhino

Having enjoyed the four long winter months as double Superleague Champions we're now on the cusp of a brand new season.

In eight days time we take on the new boys, the Celtic Crusaders, at Headingley as we look to make it a hat-trick of Grand Final wins. But who is the real competition in 2009? Who do we need to be wary of in Superleague XIV?

Part I of Tad Rhinos' season preview is here....

Bradford Bulls

Last season was poor to average for the Bulls, mainly due to the poor to average playing roster. Scruton is a great signing and will give them go forward, but more importantly he is great for team spirit behind the scenes. Menzies has been class for years but at 35 years young the jury will be out on him. Sheriffe could be a surprise hit, he did well for 'Quins last season but Worrincey is no better than what the Bulls already had.

Same as last season for me. No better than 5th place and a new coach in place by the end of the season.

Castleford Tigers

Last season was always going to be hard for our banjo playing neighbours, but this season more is expected. Cas have some players of real talent. Shenton and Westerman are the stand-outs but Hudson will give them direction around the ruck.

If, and itís a big IF, the pack can do it on a consistent basis then the Tigers may scrape into the play offs. But only just.

Catalans Dragons

A fantastic season last year and I fear it will hard for them to match it. Still plenty of class players there and they will easily make the play offs. A new coach means fresh ideas and I hope the 'snail eaters' can kick on and encourage more French players to take a chance and play the game.

With the luck of the draw I can see the Dragons at Wembley again but itís 5th or 6th in the league for me.

Celtic Crusaders

Great to see a Welsh team in SL and I can see them getting stronger in time. However this will be a tough season for the Aussie speaking taffs and I see some tough times ahead.

Some massive defeats and bottom place but I feel there is a lot to come in time for the South Wales boys.

The London boys have taken a gamble by signing some NL players and some unknown Aussies. Home form should see them mid table but a lack of any real quality, a couple of players apart, will see them struggle.

A long hard season for the cockney boys and I can see them fighting for 8th place at best.

Huddersfield Giants

Some decent players at the giants but none in key positions. Carney not coming and thormans leaving will affect them big style. Robinson is vastly over rated and the fans can only hope the rumours of rooney coming are correct.

Another mid table season for the Giants. They really need to sign quality and kick on.

Hull FC

The injuries were shocking last season but there was something wrong team spirit wise. Agar is facing a make or break season. Some good signings and the squad is littered with quality players.

Hull need to keep there quality players fit. Crocker will be a fantastic signing but his record of injuries is worrying. Better than last season but not a threat to the big boys.
