First Up in 2009 - The Crusaders

Celtic Opener

The long awaited and anticipated 2009 Superleague fixtures have hit the news stands.

Leeds have a tough opening fixture, a Round 3 encounter with Celtic Crusaders, brought forward to allow for the March 1st World Club Challenge game against Manly Sea Eagles. It's two games each against thirteen teams this year in the expanded Superleague with the on-the-road game in Murrayfield seeing us face the Catalans Dragons on a third occasion.

More information here....

Gone are the false end of season fixtures which could see us facing the same team five, or Challenge Cup Draw allowing, six times in a season. We all have home and away games against one another, giving a little more credibility to the League Leaders Trophy for the Minor Premiers.

The real Rhinos opening fixture would have been at home to the Wakefield Wildcats, but the arranging of the World Clb Challenge at the beginning of March has meant that our third round game has been moved and the first visitors to Headingley will be newly franchised Celtic Dragons. This won't be a walkover as the new boys try and show that they can be competitors with a win over the back-to-back champions.

Other fixtures of interest will undoubtedly be the trip to Perpignan on the 6th June and the away game at the Crusaders on the 22nd August. Leeds two fixtures against the Minor Premiers are on the 20th March (Away) and the penultimate gome of the season in Round twenty-six on the 4th September. So now you can get your diaries up-to-date and start planning your holidays.
