Loiner4Life's SLXIII Round 23 Preview
Posted by southstander on August 01 2008 - 13:07:05

Not L4L!
by Loiner4life

With just five rounds to go it looks cut and dried that Oldham Rhino will top the table of our three predictors. He's way out front on 105 points with SouthStander.com training with 94 and Loiner4Life back on 92.

Some tough games to call this week, and some not so tough, as our 'experts' impart their knowledge.

Here are my thoughts on this weekend's action in Super League XIII Round 23.

KR v. DRAGONS

Catalan wont be giving up on Second spot and will surly come at Hull KR all guns blazing they come in at the back of a Loss to the Champions and will be looking to bounce back here. Hull KR are having problems behind the scenes which isnít good in any profession. A Fully focused Paul Cooke is an asset to any side but will probably miss out again. Injuries have hit Hull of late, they have a good competitive first 13 out when fully fit but beyond that they struggle and I think Catalans will have too much for them. Dragons by 10

WARRIORS v. FC

Wigan come into this of an embarrassing defeat at Home to Huddersfield in which Gareth Hock decided heíd do what so many of us wanted to do last Saturday and get our Hands on the Ref. Missing Hock will be massive for them and itís around now you need to start getting your momentum into the final hurdle of the season. Hull come into this on the back of reaching the Challenge Cup Final, after 10mins of domination last week they looked shocking in defence at times and they have to be aware that if Danny borough can find gaps and create opportunities then the best in Super League Trent Barrett will be a man they need to keep quiet. I think Hull know as far as Super League goes itís over and they will be saving themselves for the Challenge Cup Final I cant see any of them going that extra 10% and risking pulling an Hamstring or something so Iím going to say Wigan to bounce back on home soil. WOLVES v. RHINOS

It will have been a lonely dressing room for a lot of players last week some will have known they gave everything they could and some will know they could have done more. Before Brian came to Leeds we were all saying what a great man manger he is and great for Team Spirit so heíll have had to earn his money this week and pick them up, despite losing out on the Cup which was Leedsí priority they now have to look to the big prize. Warrington have been on a rich run of form on ex-Leeds hooker Jimmy Lowes and heíll want to put one over (again) on Leeds. With the likes of King and Gleeson down the flanks and Leedsí problems on the right then it could be a long night for the boys and for the fans. Iím not expecting to win unfortunately but as always Iím going for a Leeds win. Leeds by 8

TIGERS v. GIANTS

The bottom 2 teams in SL pulled 2 rather large upsets off the past 2 weeks, Cas getting a 1st away win of the season at London and as mentioned earlier Huddersfield taking Wigan to the cleaners. Castleford have some exciting good young players Shenton, Owen and of course Joe Westerman next year I expect them to finish 3rd or possibly 4th bottom after having a years SL experience. Huddersfield will be just wanting this season out of the way, they spent quite a bit and failed to produce and I expect to Cas get another win here. Cas by 12

'QUINS v BULLS

This should be a real thriller!!!! Not. Boring Quins v Boring Bradford. Bulls I think are probably the only team worse off for injuries then Leeds. Quins after the humiliating defeat will be wanting to get back and maybe hope that if results go there way they could still manage 6th. Bradford this weekend again could see them come within a pubic hair of missing out on the play offs and should Wakefield win only points difference will be keeping them in there. I hope Quins win because in a situation where Leeds are in a poor run of form and not doing well you can always look to you neighbours the Bulls and Smile J. Quins by 8

WILDCATS v. SAINTS

No contest Saints win, easy peasy lemon squeezy. Despite how hard they tried they just couldnít match Hull last week, they said on the BBC commentary that Wakefieldís now winger was nicknamed Side Show bob unfortunately his defending was more Crusty the Clown at times. We could do with a favour from Wakefield but itís asking a lot from them. Iíd love to see how saints could cope with an injury list as ours as been this year but thatís life. Saints by 22
