Marketing Means More than Money
Posted by southstander on January 26 2012 - 15:00:16

Family Affair

It is a case of marketing means more than money for the RFL as they appoint Stobart as the new headline sponsors for Superleague XVII.

We understand that no money will change hands and that the sponsorship will be in kind with Superleague adverts plastered down the side of over 100 of their fleet of trucks (just under 10% of vehicles). Some will be dedicated to a particular club side, while others will more generally advertise the game.

It will be great to see the trucks liveried with our stars, we just hope that the chosen units won't just be ploughing up and down the M62 corridor.

The photographers from rlphotos.com were at the launch and sent us these photos.

The Damo Bit - 26th January 2012

by DAMO-LEEDS

Damo has emerged from his winter hibernation, rubbed the sleep from his eyes, and picked up his entertaining pen.

In his first pre-season column he does an advertising job for SouthStander.com, and sings the virtues of one of his mates.

Take a look.

Family Affair at Burrow Celebration
Posted by southstander on January 23 2012 - 15:57:38

Family Affair

The Rhinos completed their pre-season with a sixty-six point demolition of Featherstone Rovers to celebrate Rob Burrows testimonial.

Two week old Macy was in attendance to watch her Dad lead from the front and while he only crossed the whitewash once he was inspirational in many of the eleven tries which Leeds scored on the night.

It was a good all round performace and blew away the cobwebs ahead of a home game against Hull KR on the 3rd February.

The photographers from rlphotos.com were at HQ and sent us these photos.

Rhinos Ease Into SL XVII

Honoured

Darly Powell promised that his Featherstone side weren't just coming to Headingley to make up the numbers as Rob Burrow was honoured for ten years of sterling service with a testimonial.

Four thousand hardy souls made it to a windswept Headingley and with the closure of the South Stand tried to great an atmosphere where none has previously existed, in the North Stand!

A near full strength Rhinos side put on an exhibition of rugby as a reward for venturing out in such foul conditions.

We bring you all of the action here......

Burrow Testimonial Deserves Your Support
Posted by southstander on January 19 2012 - 09:42:06

Deserved Testimonial
With 241 appearances containing 140 tries and 148 goals in a one club career which has so far stretched for ten years, and with no end in sight, there isn't a player more deserving of a well attended testimonial than Rob Burrow.

To have played with such consistency deserves recognition on its own, but when you remember that the smallest player in Superleague has helped the Rhinos to five Grand Final wins in six appearances, two World Club Challenge wins in four attempts, and four Challenge Cup finals, as well as lifting the Harry Sunderland Trophy on two occasions, then it lifts Rob Burrows career into one of the greatest ever in Rugby League.

Friday night sees the diminuitive giant of the game lead a high class Rhinos side against a Featherstone Rovers side coached by Daryl Powell, the coach under whom Rob debuted for Leeds back in 2001.

2011 McShane Shirt Winner
Posted by southstander on January 03 2012 - 12:20:13

Winner

Every year, one lucky SouthStander.com sponsor wins themselves a signed players shirt. In 2011 the shirt was one worn by Paul McShane, once understudy, and now successor to the great Danny Buderus.

We received the shirt from Leeds a couple of weeks ago and I've now had the chance to do the random draw, courtesy of RANDOM.ORG and can announce the lucky recipient.

2012 Fixtures Announced
Posted by southstander on November 25 2011 - 06:03:15

The Rhinos start their 2012 campaign and title defence with a home game against the Robins on the 3rd February. Surprisingly the game isn't being shown live on SKY who have opted for Widnes first game back in the top flight when they take on Wakefield Wildcats.

The opening weekend also sees perennial runners-up Saints travel to the newly renamed London Broncos, and Challenge Cup winners Wigan are at home to the Giants.

The other televised match of the weekend is Salford against Castleford.

And there are a few other surprises, read more here....
