Leeds Don't Like Mondays

The Rhinos were coming off the back of a humiliating cup exit at the hands of the Huddersfield Giants and facing one of Superleagues current whipping boys in St Helens, a side who hadn't got a win to their name since the 1st April.
Despite being without Peacock and Ablett the Rhinos injury worries were mush less than those of Saints who were still without many of their stars and playing experienced staff out of position.
Even the bookies thought there could only be one winner.

Rhinos Look to Maintain Saints Misery

Monday night rugby league returns to Headingley with the visit of the Saints and both sides desperate for a win.
Saints are on the back of a five game losing streak (KR, Catalans, KR, London and Widnes) which stretches back six weeks, whereas the Rhinos suffered a shock defeat in the cup last week at the Giants after stringing together an eight game unbeaten run.
But Leeds will be without several superstars who picked up injurys at the John Smith's last weekend, it's not a foregone conclusion.

Monday Night football is back as the Rhinos play host to the Saints with both sides keen to shake off losses in their most recent outings.
There is a whole weekend of rugby to be played before that though starting tonight with the Bulls at the Reds, the Giants at the Vikings and in the televised game the Wolves play host to Hull FC.
The Tigers new coach takes them to the South of France, London will look to make it two on the bounce at home to Wigan and KR entertain the Wildcats.

Rhinos Cup Crash

The Rhinos were unchanged and seeking to continue an eight game unbeaten run, the Giants were in the doldrums after getting a hammering at home to the Wolves last weekend and seeing Wigan disappear
further into the distance at the top of Superleague.
The bookies could only see one winner and the BBC were there hoping for a cracker.
Surely this would be another rung on the Rhinos ladder climb to a fourth successive Challenge Cup final?

Just when we'd like to keep the Superleague momentum going, the fifth round of the Challenge Cup comes along to distract us.
Saturday afternoon sees the BBC broadcast the tie of the round as the Rhinos travel to the John Smith's Stadium to take on a Huddersfield Giants side who will be welcoming the chance to forget about the League for a week after their pasting by the Wolves last Sunday.
A brilliant discounted scheme has seen the Rhinos sell almost five thousand tickets and ensure an excellent atmposphere as both sides latest steps on the road to Wembley.

Rhinos Survive Second Half Bulls Comeback

A year on from when twenty thousand people were hood-winked into thinking it was going to be the very last game ever played at Odsal. Does this local derby still hold a similar fascination at it used to now the gap in the success of both sides has polarised? Judging by the sparsely populated Rooley Avenue end perhaps not or maybe some have taken their caravans off for the weekend. This is surprising given the close fought game of only five weeks ago.
Both sides are missing their best young forwards: Bateman for Bradford and Stevie Ward for Leeds. The club are suggesting a four month layoff for Ward, hopefully – like Watkins – he will get all his injuries over at a young age. It does highlight the challenges of preparing young players for the rigors of a high speed collision sport. The Rhinos welcome back Ryan Bailey in an otherwise unchanged side from the victory at Hull KR. The Bulls include four ex Leeds players in their line up, which Bateman apart looks as strong as they have.

We are now officially into the run up to Old Trafford as we wnter the second half of the regular season.
There are some great looking matches for the weekens with the Rhinos travelling to the Bulls looking to banish all memories of the draw that they snatched from the jaws of victory earlier in the year.
The Broncos trip to Hull looks intriguing, but the game of the round has to be the visit of the Giants to Warrington as second takes on third.

A virtuoso Rob Burrow performance – his best of the campaign - allied to some outstanding own-quarter defence, saw the Rhinos pick up a comfortable win in East Hull, on a ground they have struggled at since Rovers’ re-introduction to the top flight.
Seven different try scorers among their eight touchdowns, four in each half, illustrated the Rhinos’ across the board contribution; Joel Moon, Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Zak Hardaker others to impress.
There was also the now seemingly inevitable Kevin Sinfield landmark, his third conversion bringing up his 1,500th two-point goal, part of an imperious kicking game in a strong wind.

Sunday afternoon sees the Rhinos take on the Robins for the first time in 2013, the Rhinos on a seven game unbeaten run and Hull KR wearing the smiles of victory over St Helens in last weekends Challenge Cup fourth round.
It's not been all plain sailing for KR in 2013 with their financial backers announcing that this would be their last season of bankrolling the club, and having suffered their record Superleague defeat by 84-6 at the hands of the Wigan Warriors just four weeks ago.
The form book says Leeds, but KR like nothing better than to get a win against the Champions.

Looking through this weekends fixtures you would expect nailed on wins for Wigan, Warrington, Wolves and the Rhinos while the other fixtures are far more difficult to call.
With the Saints carrying injuries and suspensions they will be scared of a slip-up in the capital. The Reds could take the spoils in a close fought game against the Tigers, and the Wildcats will be fancying their chances of upsetting the Vikings good home form.
It all meakes for an interesting weekend.
