When Danny plays his first game in Blue and Amber he will have just celebrated his thirty-first birthday, and have plenty still in the tank to offer the Rhinos. Thirteen years a veteran of Newcastle Knights, with over 200 NRL games under his belt, he is a sensational signing to already have in the pocket for next year.|
Hooker Buderus has represented his Country on twenty-four occasions, including captaincy, and is a veteran of eighteen State of Origin games representing New South Wales.Already I'm excited about seeing him alongside Danny McGuire, Rob Burrow, Kevin Sinfield and Matt Diskin. What we are looking at is an enhancement to one of the classiest play-making outfits in the game.
The interesting question is where will Buderus play?
I doubt that he's been brought in as a replacement for Diskin, the more likely case is that he is a replacement for Ellis who gives us greater flexibility and mobility in the pack. Many of us have been calling for the acquisition of a decent back-up for Disco, and Buderus is exactly that, but I also think that he is likely to be a whole lot more.
The modern game is far more flexible with positions and with Buderus and Diskin both on the field at the same time it offers us double the options at dummy half. At 5' 10" and fourteen and a half stone he'd not be out of place in any of the six forward positions.
If this is the only contract that Gary returns from Australia clutching then it will still have been a great trip.
I'm not wishing my life away, but bring on 2009!
