David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Wigan in the Play-Offs
Posted by southstander on October 07 2007 - 15:19:59

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Read more here....

Here are Davids thoughts about Friday's play off game against Wigan;

1Webb8Brent's performance was just like the team - assured and polished - his tries were a fitting reward for good all round night.
2Donald8You can tell when Scott has had a good night you don't notice his presence - such is the understated nature of his style - amongst the best 2/3 wingers in SL..
3Toopi9 What a defender - he is so solid and it is starting to rub off on his team mates who are now defending as a team for each other.
4Senior8One of Keith's best games of the season - held his defensive position and looked like he could break the line ball in hand.
25Smith8Like all his team mates defended as if it really mattered and was always looking to take the ball up.
6McGuire8Should have scored when he dropped the ball with the line begging - that apart Danny is looking a much more complete player - his kicking game was very good indeed.
7Burrow9The road runner is back on track - hopefully Rob is returning to top form just at the right time - lovely balanced running for his second try.
8Leuluai8Put a lot of effort into his first 20 minute spell and suffered a bit in the second half - his desire is there for all to see as is his willingness to put it in for his team mates.
9Diskin8Better than last week but still a long way off the Diskin 2004 model - will he ever reach those levels again?.
10Peacock10In a word AWESOME - Jamie won't win the MOS but if there's a better player in SL I haven't seen him - my MOM by a mile.
11Jones Buchanan8The thought of Old Trafford sparked Jamie back into one of his most convincing performances of the year.
12Ellis8Along with Toopi Gareth leads the defensive line - a job he did brilliantly - his commitment is total and the frugal nature of the Rhino's defence can be put down to the effort of Gareth..
13Sinfield9Really stood up to be counted - made great on field decisions and his break in the second half sealed the victory.
14Lauiti'iti8Ali could just be the difference - he played as if he really wanted the win and a place at Old Trafford - really good to see him score - an in form Ali is a serious piece of weaponary.
22Ablett8With every game Carl shows his skill - very versatile and highly skilled - just the quality of player we need in the 17.
18Kirke7Ian went off with what looked like a serious ankle injury the score is a reflection of his limited game time.
16Bailey8Smith's words of encouragement obviously did the trick - Ryan was excellent - hard tackling, hard running and no silly penalties - he deserves his place next week on that performance.
